An Express Move: Avoid These Mistakes

Moving company Berlin
Seven mistakes a rush move does not forgive – and how to avoid them
Learning from other people's mistakes
An express move is the right choice when things have to happen fast – because of a sudden job change, an unexpected termination or unforeseen personal circumstances. It usually becomes expensive not because of the carrying, but because of planning mistakes: a furniture list that is too short, a missing parking restriction, an overlooked deadline. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen we address these pitfalls on the very first call. We also tell you honestly how quickly a date is available – without promising a fixed number of hours.
Unlike a move planned well in advance, an express move leaves hardly any time to fix mistakes. That is why it pays to know the typical traps beforehand: what happens if there is more furniture than stated? Who pays if a wardrobe is damaged? We calculate the fixed price from your details; we are liable for your belongings under the rules of the German Commercial Code (HGB). Furniture transport, packing and assembly all come from a single provider.

Avoid the most common mistake: call early
The earlier, the more dates
The most common mistake with an express move date: waiting too long before calling. Call us on 01625978461, tell us your preferred date, addresses and furniture – and you will know immediately whether a team is free and which fixed price applies.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

How we prevent mistakes
Asking questions instead of surprises
Most problems with an express move can be spotted in advance. That is why we ask about the cellar, loft and balcony, about the floor, lift and carrying distance, and whether a parking restriction can still be arranged in time. This results in a fixed price that matches your actual move. For damage to your belongings, our liability under the German Commercial Code applies. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21); the Locations overview shows which places have their own pages.

What we do for you
Mistakes in an express move usually arise from a lack of clarity. That is why we put the date, services and price in writing – from the first call to the last box.

Clear communication
Structured move planning

Clean handover
Shared load: not for a rush date
A typical mistake is relying on a shared load when under time pressure. It is cheaper because several jobs are bundled on one tour – but the date is set by that tour. If you are not under acute time pressure and have little furniture, it is a good alternative.

Moving
& transport from a single source
Besides the express move, there are variants that may suit you better – and choosing the wrong one is a mistake in itself. If you do have a few weeks, a regularly planned private move is often cheaper. If you are moving far, our long-distance moves from Berlin explain what matters on long routes. That way you choose the option that fits your deadline.

Questions about typical mistakes
Mistakes 1 to 3: before moving day
1. Asking too late. Collecting quotes by email first costs days. A phone call with addresses, floors and a furniture list is enough for a written fixed-price quote – and you know immediately whether a team is free. Our page Short-notice moving in Berlin shows how this works in Berlin.
2. Underestimating the parking restriction. In Berlin the signs must be in place at least three full days (72 hours) beforehand, and the authority usually needs considerably longer to issue the order. With only a few days' notice this often no longer works – then a longer carrying distance has to be planned. 3. Keeping the furniture list too short. Many people forget the cellar, balcony and loft; but the fixed price only applies to the belongings stated.
Mistakes 4 to 7: liability, damage deadlines, rent and registration
4. Misjudging liability. A removal company is liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB), but limited to €620 per cubic metre of cargo space required. Jewellery, cash and documents belong in your own bag. 5. Reporting damage too late. Visible damage must be reported no later than the day after delivery, damage that is not externally visible within 14 days (§ 451f HGB).
6. Overlooking double rent. The statutory notice period for tenants is around three months (§ 573c BGB); talk to your landlord early about a new tenant or a termination agreement. 7. Forgetting to register. You must register with the registration office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG). Not sure whether an express move or a regular private move suits you better? We will advise you without obligation.

Moving costs in detail
First, the volume of your belongings is determined, then the distance (from €4.10/km) is calculated. After that, the floor and the lift situation are factored into the price. A parking restriction zone and extra services such as a shared load complete the calculation.
