Children's Room Last & First

The right order
Last into the lorry, first to be set up again
The children's room during a move
A move with children goes more calmly if the children's room stays as it is until the end. There is a very practical reason for this: whatever is loaded into the lorry last stands at the back by the door and is the first to come out again at the destination. If the children's room is loaded last, it is also unloaded first at the new home – and can be set up while the rest is still being carried in. Until then the child plays and sleeps in their familiar surroundings.
Tell us during the survey that the children's room should be loaded last; we will then plan the order accordingly. Mark the boxes from the children's room with their own colour so that they end up straight in the right room at the destination. With a move with assembly we reassemble the bed and wardrobe first. We are liable for your removal goods under the HGB; you can read more about the process under Private move.

What must be ready on the first night
Four things before everything else
In the new home not everything has to be finished on the first evening – but the children's room should be far enough along for the child to sleep in it. That means the assembled bed with familiar bedding, light, a few favourite things and a safe room: shelves and chests of drawers are secured, cables and tools are gone. Plan the first hours after unloading for this. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and set up the children's furniture first on request; other places can be found under Locations.

The process in six steps
For the children's room to be packed last and set up first, the rest of the flat must be ready beforehand. These six steps show what the order looks like from packing to the first night.

Make the room safe
Only the children's room is moving?
If only a children's room is moving to another city, for example to the other parent, a shared load can be cheaper than your own lorry. The furniture travels with other jobs on the same route – instead of a fixed day there is a time window for delivery.

From
planning to assembly
Besides the order in the children's room, there are other topics in a family move. Which tasks children can take on themselves depending on their age is described in the article Involving Children in the Move. Which documents the nursery and school at the new place of residence need can be read under Registering with a New Nursery & School. If you do not want to dismantle furniture yourself, you will find information under Furniture assembly; for long routes there are Long-distance moves.

Questions about the children's room during a move
Why the children's room should be packed last
Children need familiar surroundings until the last moment. If the children's room is packed last, they can play, learn and sleep there until moving day while boxes are already piled up in the rest of the flat. Younger children in particular cope better with the chaos if their own room stays as it was until the end.
In practice this means: pack the children's room only the day before or on the morning of the move and have the children's furniture and boxes loaded last. In the lorry they then stand at the back by the door. Tell us this during the survey so that we can plan the loading order accordingly.
Why the children's room is set up first in the new home
At the new home, the furniture loaded last comes out first. That is why the children's room can be set up first while the rest is carried in: bed, wardrobe, shelf and the colour-marked boxes. That way the child immediately has a place of their own to retreat to, even if the rest of the home is still chaotic.
Before the child takes over the room, shelves and chests of drawers should be fixed to the wall – the matching brackets usually come with the assembly instructions. Put away tools, screws and box cutters, check windows and sockets and put up a light. After that the room is ready for the first night.
What your move will cost
The question of costs can be answered in general terms: from €344 for a 1-room flat, from €594 for 2 rooms, from €909 for 3 rooms and from €1,344 for 4 rooms. A house or villa requires an individual quote, as many factors play a role here. For a long-distance move we charge from €4.25/km. The easiest option is a free survey, at which we clarify everything else.
What makes the difference in price?
- Amount of removal goods
- Number of kilometres (from €4.25/km)
