A Piano Transport: What to Look Out For

Moving company Berlin
What to look out for when choosing a company for your piano transport
Check the company
An upright piano or a grand piano is heavy and mechanically delicate – an upright piano weighs roughly 170 to 270 kg depending on its size. That is why it is worth taking a close look at the company you choose for the piano transport. Check whether someone looks at the instrument and the route before giving a quote, or at least asks precisely about measurements, floor and lift. Ask what equipment will be used to carry it – piano straps, dolly, stair trolley, padded blankets – and how many people will come. Anyone without a clear answer to this is probably not planning the transport.
The second checkpoint is the quote itself: does it contain a fixed price, and is it clear what it covers – carrying, securing, transport, setting up and, if needed, a parking restriction or an external lift? The third point is liability: a removal company is liable under the HGB, limited to €620 per cubic metre of loading space. A reputable company tells you this openly and discusses additional insurance for valuable instruments. With a grand piano, removing and reattaching the legs and pedal lyre is also part of the job.

Questions you should ask
You do not have to trust "Beste Umzug Unternehmen" blindly – ask us the same questions as any other company for piano transport. We come for a survey, measure doors and stairs and tell you what equipment and how many people we will use to carry it: piano stair trolleys, lifting straps, belts and padding. The quote contains a fixed price, and we explain liability under the HGB. On request we apply for the parking restriction zone and advise you on preparation and the date.

Questions about choosing the right company
Process of a professional piano transport
It starts with a careful prior survey in which accessibility, stair width and lift dimensions are checked. We then secure the instrument with special straps and padding before it is carefully moved with a piano carrying device.
The transport itself takes place in a closed loading space with non-slip strapping so that the instrument does not shift. At the destination the piano is carefully positioned; the tuning is then done by your piano tuner.
Costs for a piano transport at a glance
The cost of a piano transport depends on the weight and size of the instrument as well as the distance and the local conditions. Narrow stairwells, missing lifts or long carrying routes can also affect the price.
Thanks to our transparent fixed-price calculation for piano transport, you know exactly what costs to expect before you place the order. That way you avoid hidden extra fees and keep full control of your budget.
What does your move really cost?
The moving costs depend above all on the size of your flat. Here is our price range:
- 1-room flat: from €365
- 2-room flat: from €584
- 3-room flat: from €899
- 4-room flat: from €1,329
- House or villa: individual quote
For long-distance moves we charge from €3.85/km. Take advantage of our free survey to receive an exact quote.
What does the price of your move consist of?
Pricing is based primarily on the volume and the distance (from €3.85/km). Other influencing factors are the floor, whether there is a lift and setting up a parking restriction zone. If required, furniture assembly or a shared load complement the service.
