The most frequent questions about piano transport

Answered in brief

Unsere Firma Professional on-site moving solutions with secure planning, flexible services and on-time execution.

The first question before any piano transport is almost always the same: how heavy is it, actually? An upright piano weighs roughly 170 to 270 kg depending on its size, a baby grand around 280 to 350 kg, a concert grand 480 kg and more. The instrument is moved with dollies, piano straps, padded blankets and stair trolleys – and with as many hands as the stairs and the weight require. We answer the other questions – duration, liability, tuning – below.

We handle the process from the survey to setting the instrument up in its new place and then give you a fixed price. We are liable for your instrument under the HGB; this liability is limited, so additional insurance is worthwhile for a valuable piano. Tuning is not part of the transport but a job for your piano tuner. Whether within the city or as part of a long-distance move – we plan the route in advance.

What customers want to know beforehand

Weight, route, liability, price

Before a piano transport, most people want to know four things: will the instrument fit through the stairwell and the door? How many people will come? Who pays if there is damage? What does it cost? We clarify the first two questions during the survey by measuring door widths, landings and the lift. As for the third: we are liable under the HGB, and we tell you openly where this liability ends. And for the fourth, you receive a fixed price with no hidden extra costs.

Will it fit through?

We measure the door, hallway and stairwell at both addresses. An upright piano is usually 109 to 132 cm tall – spiral stairs and landings are often the deciding factor.

How many helpers?

That depends on the weight, the floor and the stairs. We set the number after the survey and state it in the quote.

Who is liable?

We are liable under the HGB, limited to €620 per cubic metre of loading space. For valuable instruments, additional insurance is worthwhile.

Who does the tuning?

Tuning is done by your piano tuner, not the moving team. You arrange the appointment with them once the piano is in its new place.
BRIEFLY EXPLAINED

Our services at a glance

Behind these points are questions we are often asked before a piano transport – from preparation and parking restrictions to reporting damage.

01

Reliable moving service

When will you arrive? You receive a fixed time window and find out early enough if anything changes.
02

Safe handling

What do I need to prepare? Take sheet music and decorations off the piano and clear the way – we take care of securing and padding.
03

Clear communication

What exactly does it cost? The quote states the fixed price with all services; extra costs, for an external lift for example, are listed in advance.
04

Structured move planning

Do I need a parking restriction? If the lorry cannot stand in front of the door, yes – in Berlin about four weeks in advance. We submit the application on request.
05

Flexible support

Can it be done together with the rest of the move? Yes – we plan the piano and furniture in one appointment, and the instrument gets its own place in the lorry.
06

Damage – what now?

Report visible damage no later than the day after delivery, hidden damage within 14 days (§ 451f HGB) – ideally with photos.
NATIONWIDE SERVICE

Just the piano to another city?

Ideal for just a few pieces of furniture
With a shared load, your piano is transported together with other jobs on the same route. You do not pay for a whole lorry but share loading space and travel costs. We agree a time window for collection and delivery; enough people carry at both addresses, and the instrument travels padded and strapped upright.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about piano transport

Costs, duration, parking restrictions, liability, grand pianos and tuning – the questions asked most often before a piano transport.
The cost of a piano transport depends on weight, distance and floor. A simple transport within a city usually starts at an affordable fixed price, while a grand piano transport over longer distances costs more. After a short survey we prepare an individual, transparent quote with no hidden costs, so you know exactly what to expect.

Process of a professional piano transport

First there is a free survey or an assessment by phone, in which we clarify the weight, size and access routes for your instrument. We then plan the best transport route, including the stairwell, door widths or a furniture lift if one is needed.

On moving day our carriers secure the piano with special straps and transport blankets before it is carefully moved on dollies. At the destination it is set up properly; the tuning is then done by your piano tuner.

What does a piano transport really cost?

The cost of a piano transport depends on several factors: the weight and size of the instrument, the floor, the distance and how accessible the building is. A classic upright piano is usually cheaper to move than a concert grand, which needs more staff and special equipment.

We always calculate a transparent fixed price, so you do not need to worry about hidden extra costs. You can read what the service includes under Piano transport; we prepare the quote based on the specific details of your move.

The most important price factors in a move

The key price factors include the volume of your household goods and the distance, which is charged from €4.15/km. The floor, the lift and a possible parking restriction zone also have an effect. In addition, we offer furniture assembly and shared loads.
