Moving to Apeldoorn: town, villages and forest
Districts, costs, parking
A move to Apeldoorn takes you to a municipality of around 169,000 inhabitants in the province of Gelderland, directly east of the Veluwe. Besides the town itself, the municipality includes villages such as Beekbergen, Ugchelen, Loenen and Hoenderloo. Within the town, the range extends from the villa quarter of Berg en Bos in the west, through older districts along the Apeldoorns Kanaal, to new developments such as Zuidbroek and Zonnehoeve in the east. When planning our long-distance move, the type of house, the floor and the parking zone matter most.
From Berlin-Moabit it is around 577 km via the A2, A30 and the Dutch A1; Apeldoorn lies on the A1 and the A50, which cross near Beekbergen. No customs duties apply within the EU. We come from Berlin, have no branch in the Netherlands and take care of packing, transport and assembly. Interim storage in Berlin is possible if your flat becomes free later. We are liable under § 451e HGB.

All
about moving in to Apeldoorn
In Apeldoorn a lot depends on the vehicle, because a separate parking rule applies to large lorries. Besides the transport, a move to Apeldoorn raises practical questions: does the lorry need a parking permit or an RVV exemption? What is involved in registering at the town hall? And how do you dispose of old furniture with the Verhuispas afval (moving waste pass)? The municipality's rules are set out below; the route and driving time are described in the article Long-distance move to Apeldoorn.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Apeldoorn
Districts and villages of Apeldoorn
The town of Apeldoorn is divided into eight wijken (districts), from Centrum through West and Noord to Zuidoost. In the west lies the villa quarter of Berg en Bos near the nature park of the same name, and in the north Het Loo and Kerschoten. In the east, new residential districts have been built in Zuidbroek and Zonnehoeve; Zevenhuizen lies in Noordoost, and in the south-east there are further residential areas around De Maten station.
The municipality also includes villages such as Ugchelen, Beekbergen, Loenen, Hoenderloo and Uddel – quieter, often with houses and gardens. The Apeldoorns Kanaal was built in 1829 and links the town with the IJssel at Hattem. Which part suits you usually depends on your commute and the type of house.
Living and everyday life in Apeldoorn
As in many Dutch towns, the housing market in Apeldoorn is in demand. We do not quote specific rents or purchase prices here because they change quickly; Dutch property portals show current listings. Important for the move: registration at the town hall requires a tenancy or purchase agreement or the main occupant's consent.
Apeldoorn lies on the A1 towards Amsterdam and Germany and on the A50 between Zwolle and Arnhem, which cross near Beekbergen. In the north of the town is Het Loo Palace, and to the west the Veluwe begins with large areas of forest and heathland. If you are moving into a village on the edge of the forest, check access and turning space for the lorry in advance. The municipality also includes small places such as Hoog Soeren and Radio Kootwijk in the middle of the Veluwe; for addresses there we clarify access and vehicle size particularly early.

Moves from Berlin – across the border too

Apeldoorn: parking permit, exemptions and Berg en Bos
On apeldoorn.nl we found no page describing a reserved space for removal vans; the municipality answers questions about this on 14 055. Two permits from the parking and traffic section are nevertheless of interest for moving in.
According to the municipality, the Tijdelijke parkeervergunning (temporary parking permit) is intended for people moving into a permit area (vergunninggebied) who are not yet registered at the new address. It is valid for one day, one week or one month, around the clock, and only for on-street parking. For 2026 the page lists €17.51 (1 day), €48.23 (1 week) and €94.37 (1 month) for the Binnenstad (inner city); outside the Binnenstad €3.15, €17.51 and €48.23. Applicants must be the registered keeper of the vehicle; you apply online or at the desk.
According to the municipality, an RVV-Ontheffing (exemption from traffic rules or traffic signs) is only granted in exceptional cases. Apply at least two weeks in advance; it costs €26 per day, at most €151.80 per year. As an example, the page mentions driving a car into the Berg en Bos town park, which requires permission. You should check in advance whether this applies to your removal van. For the German side of the topic: Parking restriction zone.
Apeldoorn: registration from Germany and the Verhuispas afval
Anyone moving to Apeldoorn from abroad registers, according to apeldoorn.nl, in person at the desk in the town hall within five working days; this is only possible by appointment on 14 055. Nobody can do this on your behalf, and partners and children come along. You must bring a valid identity document, a tenancy or purchase agreement (alternatively a completed declaration of consent with a copy of the consenting person's ID) and, if born abroad, your birth certificate. Registration is free; written confirmation follows within two weeks, and the data extract including your citizen service number (BSN) within four weeks.
Anyone moving within the Netherlands may report the move at the earliest four weeks before and at the latest five days afterwards; in the event of breaches the municipality can impose a fine of up to €325.
A practical help for moving in is the Verhuispas afval (moving waste pass): according to the municipality, it lets you dispose of up to 400 kg of grofvuil (bulky waste) free of charge; it is valid for twelve months. You can get it at the Recycleplein (Aruba 16) or online via Circulus. Bring your ID and tenancy/purchase agreement or a BRP extract. Waste is handed in at the Recycleplein or at the Milieustraat at Talhoutweg 26 in Vaassen. Read more about everyday life in Living in Apeldoorn; for the route from Berlin see the long-distance moving guide.
