Fresh start

Moving as a fresh start: declutter, say goodbye, settle in

shaped mindfully

Unsere Firma is based in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21), takes care of carrying and transport and leaves your mind free for what is new.

Moving as a fresh start begins long before moving day: with the question of what should come along. If you declutter before packing, you move with fewer boxes, pay less for transport and start in rooms that are not already full on the first day. Go through room by room and sort into keep, sell, give away and dispose of. Larger quantities can be collected by a house clearance.

A fresh start also includes the formalities: registering with the registration authority within two weeks, mail forwarding, electricity, internet and insurance. Get these done in the first week, and there is room left for settling in. We take care of carrying, transport and assembly; we quote the fixed price after a survey. That way moving day becomes a beginning, not an ordeal.

SHARING THE WORK

What we take on for your fresh start

We carry, you decide

We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take care of the physical part: dismantling furniture, packing, carrying, transporting and reassembling it in the new flat. You decide what comes along and what stays – ideally before the survey, because less volume means a lower fixed price. We are liable for your household goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. Places with their own pages can be found under locations.

Declutter first

What you have not used for years does not have to come along: sort before packing, and only favourite things will fill the boxes.

Living smaller

If you are moving into a smaller flat, measure walls and doors beforehand and plan which furniture will really fit.

Memories

Pack photos, letters and heirlooms yourself in a separate box, labelled and loaded last – so it is the first to be to hand.

Assembly the same day

If the bed and wardrobe are up on the evening of moving day, you spend the first night in your new home rather than among boxes.
STEP BY STEP

Six steps to settling in

A fresh start rarely succeeds in a single day. These six steps help you say goodbye to your old home and settle into the new one – without the registrations being left undone. Not every step suits everyone – take what helps you.

01

Sort out mindfully

Four piles: keep, sell, give away, dispose of. Start with the cellar and the storeroom – that is where most of the clutter is.
02

Say goodbye

A last evening with neighbours or friends in the old flat helps you leave the place behind consciously before the move begins.
03

First-night box

Bed linen, towels, charging cables, medication, tools and coffee in a box that you transport yourself – for the first evening in your new home.
04

Register within two weeks

Within two weeks of moving in, register with the registration authority; you need the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) for this.
05

Explore the area

Bakery, doctor, bus stop, park: walk consciously through the new neighbourhood in the first few days – that way it becomes familiar more quickly.
06

A favourite spot

First, fully furnish one corner where you feel comfortable. The rest of the flat can easily take a few weeks.
FOR SMALL LOADS

Starting afresh with little luggage

When little is left after decluttering

If you have decluttered thoroughly, you often no longer need a lorry of your own: with a shared load, the remaining household goods travel on a run that is going that way anyway – with a time window instead of a fixed delivery day. That saves lorry hire and therefore costs.

PLANNING A FRESH START

Beforehand,
moving day, afterwards

What counts in which phase

Moving as a fresh start has three phases: sorting out and saying goodbye beforehand, moving day itself and settling in afterwards – with registration, mail forwarding and new routines. How to redirect your post safely is explained in our article Setting up mail forwarding. If you know the phases, you plan in a more relaxed way.

Before: sort out

Four to six weeks before, start decluttering, sell or give away what is not coming along and have large quantities collected. Only then is the volume settled – and with it the price for the private move.

Moving day: lighten the load

On moving day the movers carry, pad and drive; you keep the overview, show them where everything goes in the new flat and take the first-night box with you yourself. With furniture assembly, the bed and wardrobe are up by the evening.

After: settle in

In the first week, register, set up mail forwarding and transfer electricity and internet. After that there is time to get to know the neighbours, explore the neighbourhood and furnish the flat at your leisure. Small rituals such as the first meal together make the new rooms familiar more quickly.

FAQ

Questions about moving as a fresh start

Decluttering, saying goodbye, planning, costs, liability and settling in – answered briefly.
A move often marks the beginning of a new stage of life – whether professional, family or personal. Many people use this moment to let go of old habits and consciously create new structures. The fresh start is not only physical but also mental, as you engage with new possibilities and perspectives.

Why a move is often more than a change of place

Many people associate a move not only with a new home but with a fresh start: a new job, a separation, a growing family or the wish for change. The move then marks the visible beginning of a new chapter.

That is exactly why it is worth shaping it consciously: what should come along from your old life, and what can stay behind? If you answer this question before packing, you move more easily.

How to make the emotional fresh start after the move

After moving day, the more important part begins: settling in. Take time to get to know your new surroundings, make contacts and build routines.

Small rituals such as the first meal together in the new flat or consciously setting up a favourite spot help you feel at home more quickly. That way the fresh start soon becomes a real home.

We charge long-distance moves separately from €4.20/km. Details are best clarified during a free survey.

What does your moving price depend on?

Besides the actual volume of your furniture, the distance (from €4.20/km) in particular affects the total cost. A floor without a lift or a required parking restriction zone can also increase the price. If you also book furniture assembly or a shared load, you should factor this in.
