From Berlin to Innsbruck

Long-distance move to Innsbruck: 751 km into the Inn Valley

Planning from Berlin

Unsere Firma plans the move at Stromstraße 21 in Berlin and brings your household goods around 751 km via the A9, A8 and the Inn Valley motorway to Innsbruck.

A move to Innsbruck is a long-distance move to another EU country: around 751 km from Berlin via the A9 to Munich, the A99 and the A8, then via the A93 and, from Kufstein, on the Inn Valley motorway (Inntalautobahn) A12 to the Tyrolean capital. By lorry that is about eleven and a half hours including breaks – more than a driver's daily driving time, so we plan two days. Within the EU no customs duty is payable on household goods. For your long-distance move we clarify the date, loading zone and registration deadline in advance.

We start in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), load on the first day and deliver in Innsbruck on a working day. On Austrian motorways, vehicles over 3.5 t pay the GO toll; night and weekend driving bans apply to heavy lorries, and the state of Tyrol publishes its own driving ban calendar. We quote the fixed price after a survey; we also handle the return route from Innsbruck to Berlin. The route is described under Moving Berlin – Innsbruck.

TEAM FROM BERLIN

How your move to Innsbruck works with us

751 km, one team, one fixed price

Our team sets off from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin – we have no base in Innsbruck itself. That is why we plan all the more carefully beforehand: floor, lift, carrying route and parking space, for example for a flat in Pradl or a house on the Hungerburg. According to the city, loading in Innsbruck is generally free of charge; for a no-stopping zone, the pavement or the pedestrian zone after 10.30 am you need an exemption permit from the Road Traffic Department (Referat Straßenverkehr). After the survey you receive a fixed price; liability for your belongings is governed by § 451e HGB (€620 per cubic metre). Details of the private move can be found here.

Packing service

For a 751 km route everything is packed to be break-proof: boxes labelled by room, glass and screens padded – so everything arrives safely in Innsbruck, with our packing service.

Office move

Workstations, files and IT travel numbered and according to a room plan, so that your team in Innsbruck can carry on working without a long break – with an office move.

Senior moves

With a senior move to Innsbruck we take our time: furniture is measured, and the most important things are already in place on the first evening.

Furniture transport

We secure heavy or delicate individual pieces with blankets and straps for the 751 km to Innsbruck – with furniture transport.
PLANNING FROM BERLIN

What you can count on

How much does the move to Innsbruck cost? After the survey you receive a fixed price that already takes into account volume, floor, access and the 751 km journey.

01

Fixed date

With around 11.5 hours of lorry driving, we fix the loading and arrival times in advance so that you can arrange the handover in Innsbruck with certainty.
02

Floor and lift

A flat in Pradl or a house on the Hungerburg: we ask about the floor, lift and stairs in advance – so there are enough carriers in Innsbruck.
03

Parking at destination

We apply in good time in Innsbruck for an exemption permit for a no-stopping zone or the pedestrian zone so that the removal van has space in front of your new flat in Innsbruck.
04

Schedule from giving notice

We plan backwards from moving-in day: notice in Berlin, packing dates, registration appointment and the journey timed to the handover in Innsbruck.
05

Interim storage possible

If the flat in Innsbruck is not yet free, we store your belongings temporarily in Berlin and deliver on the new date.
06

Assembly on arrival day

Beds and wardrobes are set up on the day of arrival, the boxes are in the right rooms – and you have time to register with the Meldezettel in Innsbruck.

Part load: move affordably

Combine cleverly, move for less

Only a few pieces of furniture and boxes? With a part load, your belongings travel on a trip towards Tyrol instead of you paying for a lorry of your own. You get a time window instead of a fixed day; whether a trip to Innsbruck is coming up, we will tell you after your enquiry.

Moving
service without compromise

Stress-free from A to B

A long-distance move to Innsbruck is about more than transport: which driving bans apply in Tyrol, do you need customs papers, how quickly must the registration form (Meldezettel) be submitted and what happens to the car? This guide sums up the route, tolls and registration obligations and sets out what the city of Innsbruck says about no-stopping zones, loading zones and residence registration. All official steps at a glance can be found in our checklist for Austria.

Planning safely and calmly

Whether a private move, senior move or student move: if you are moving to Innsbruck, it is best to plan backwards – handover, registration with the Meldezettel, notice in Berlin – and keep the 751 km route in mind.

Furniture, boxes, carrying routes

A packing service and secure furniture transport are one thing – what really matters is the parking space in front of the building, whether a flat in Pradl or a house on the Hungerburg in Innsbruck. We measure the stairwell and lift beforehand.

Costs, timing and special cases

How expensive will it be? Volume, floor and the 751 km journey are decisive; a part load saves money if you have few belongings. The office move to Innsbruck follows its own room plan and schedule.

FAQ

Common questions

The most frequently asked questions about moving to Innsbruck.
No. Austria, like Germany, is part of the EU, so there is no customs declaration and no import duties on your household goods. An inventory list is still useful – for yourself and for liability. What you need to do after arrival is set out in our checklist for Austria.

No customs, but a Meldezettel within three days

Austria, like Germany, is part of the European Union. For your household goods, a move to Innsbruck therefore involves no customs declaration and no import duties; an inventory list still helps – for yourself and for liability.

More important is the registration obligation: according to the city of Innsbruck, you register with the registration form (Meldezettel) within three days of moving in, each person in the household individually; the landlord co-signs. Registration is free of charge and also possible online with ID Austria. EU citizens staying longer than three months apply for a registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) within four months. In Germany you deregister within two weeks of moving out.

Route, driving time and Tyrolean driving bans

From our base in Berlin-Moabit it is around 751 km to Innsbruck: the A9 to Munich, the A99 and A8 towards Salzburg, the A93 into the Inn Valley and the last 75 km or so on the Inn Valley motorway A12. For the lorry we allow about 11.5 hours including breaks; that exceeds the daily driving time, so we load on the first day and deliver on the second. We do not give flat-rate average prices – you receive the fixed price after the survey.

In Austria, vehicles over 3.5 t pay the GO toll, and night and weekend driving bans apply to heavy lorries. Tyrol also publishes a driving ban calendar and rules on lorry metering (Lkw-Dosierung). Locally, a no-stopping zone or the pedestrian zone requires an exemption permit from the city.

The basis for calculating your move

The basis of every price calculation is volume and distance – the latter is charged at €3.90/km. On top of that come individual factors such as floor, lift and parking restriction zone. For a complete service we recommend furniture assembly and part loads.

No-stopping zone and loading in Innsbruck: application to the Road Traffic Department

For the removal van in front of your new address, Innsbruck's Road Traffic and Road Law Department (Referat Straßenverkehr und Straßenrecht) is responsible: Maria-Theresien-Straße 18, 6020 Innsbruck, telephone +43 512 5360 8216, e-mail [email protected]. According to the city, a no-stopping zone, driving on pavements, the pedestrian zone after 10.30 am or exceptions to driving bans require an exemption permit under § 45 (2) of the Austrian Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). The city links to the application form on its page.

Required details include name, address, telephone and e-mail, period, vehicle registration number, vehicle type with maximum gross weight for lorries, the zone concerned, whether access is one-off or repeated, and a justification. Preconditions include a considerable personal or economic interest, and the safety and flow of traffic must not be significantly impaired. For a temporary loading zone, the city states a lead time of ten days. Loading is generally free of charge within the city; according to the city, the exemption permit involves “varying costs”, but it does not give an amount. Public opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8 am to 12 noon.

For the journey from Berlin, note the Austrian lorry rules: according to the Business Service Portal (Unternehmensserviceportal), lorries over 7.5 t may not drive daily from 10 pm to 5 am, on Saturdays a ban applies from 3 pm to midnight, and on Sundays and public holidays from midnight to 10 pm. The state of Tyrol also keeps a driving ban calendar and a separate page on lorry metering. Read more about setting one up under our parking restriction zone.

Registering in Innsbruck: registration office, car and energy

Anyone moving into a flat in Innsbruck must, according to the city, register “within three days of moving in”, each person in the household individually, including children. The Registration and Residents Department (Referat Melde- und Einwohnerwesen), Maria-Theresien-Straße 18, 1st floor, is responsible. Residence registration is free of charge. You can book an appointment online for registering in person; alternatively, registration is possible with ID Austria via oesterreich.gv.at. Registration by e-mail is not possible. Public opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 7.30 am to 3.00 pm and Friday from 7.30 am to 12.00 noon.

You should bring the completed registration form (Meldezettel) signed by your accommodation provider, an original official photo ID and public documents such as a passport or birth certificate. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals staying more than three months need a registration certificate within four months.

The city's checklist also reminds you to register with the energy supplier IKB (electricity, gas or district heating, water), register your vehicle at your new place of residence, register your dog, set up mail forwarding and get a residents' parking card. Further information on districts and housing can be found in the Innsbruck moving guide and in the article Living in Innsbruck.
