Between two flats: storage and the transition period for singles

Singles guide · Part 14
When there are weeks between moving out and moving in
Bridging the gap
The new tenancy does not always follow directly on from the old one. If there are a few days or weeks between moving out and moving in, singles face the question: where do the bed, wardrobe and boxes go? One solution is storage: we collect your household goods, put them into storage and deliver them to the new flat as soon as you have the keys. For transport and loading we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB). All the details of our private move can be found under private move.
For the transition period, pack separately: clothes for a few weeks, your laptop, documents, charging cables and medication stay with you, not in storage. During the survey we clarify what goes into storage and what comes along directly; we then quote the fixed price for collection, storage and delivery. If you pay double rent for a short time instead, you save yourself two transports – weigh one against the other. On request we also dismantle and reassemble the furniture.

Collection, storage, delivery – fixed price after a survey
Call us on 01625978461 and tell us your moving-out and moving-in dates. During the survey we clarify what will go into storage and then quote a fixed price for your move as a single person with interim storage. Even without a gap, we will advise you free of charge on the number of boxes and the date.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we bridge the transition period
Two appointments, one contact person
If you are between two flats, you need two appointments: collection when you move out and delivery when you move in. We plan both with you and store your household goods in the meantime. We quote the fixed price for transport and storage after the survey, without hourly billing. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide; destinations with their own page are shown in the locations overview. We collect furniture that no longer has a place as part of a house clearance.

How to plan the transition period
A gap between two tenancies is easy to bridge once these six points are clarified – from storage to post sent to the interim address.

Between
two flats
The last part of the series is about a situation many singles know: notice has been given on the old flat, but the new one is not yet free. We show when storage is worthwhile and when a short period of double rent is cheaper, what belongs in the transition suitcase and how to redirect post to an interim address. The gap can also be bridged in this way with a long-distance move to another city – for work reasons, for example; more under long-distance moves. There are also tips for the storage list.

Frequently asked questions about the transition period and storage
What goes into storage – and what does not
A single person's move is the perfect opportunity to take a critical look at your own possessions. Use the chance to sell, donate or dispose of things you have not needed in recent years. Fewer items mean not only a lower fixed price but also less stress when packing and unpacking.
Make a list of all pieces of furniture and boxes so that you can realistically estimate in advance how much space you actually need. If you put things into storage between two flats, you pay for every cubic metre of storage space – so decluttering before moving out pays off twice.
Organisation between moving out and moving in
Without a partner or family, the entire organisation of the move is down to you alone – which makes structured planning all the more important. Draw up a schedule with all the important dates: moving out, handover, moving in, registration and – if necessary – collection and delivery for storage. A good checklist helps you keep track during stressful phases.
Hire a professional moving company early to save yourself time and nerves. That way you can concentrate on the important things such as flat hunting or paperwork while we take care of the physical transport.
How we calculate your moving price
Our pricing model is simple and fair: small flats with 1 room cost from €369, medium-sized ones with 2 rooms from €605. For 3 rooms we start from €889, for 4 rooms from €1,309. For houses and villas there is always a tailor-made quote because each one is different. If you are moving over longer distances, you pay from €3.80 per kilometre driven for long-distance moves. It is best to clarify the details during a free survey.
Moving costs in detail: including storage
The volume is the biggest cost driver, followed by the distance (from €3.80/km). The floor, a lift and any parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) also affect the final price. If required, we add a shared load or furniture assembly.
