Heat warning on moving day: plan B for extreme temperatures

Plan B in the heat
When the weather service issues a warning: three options
React calmly
The move has been planned for weeks, and then the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) issues a heat warning. The DWD warns of strong heat stress when the perceived temperature is above roughly 32 °C and it hardly cools down at night, and of extreme heat stress from above 38 °C. For heavy carrying work, that is a real strain. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen, in such a case we agree with you how the day can be adjusted – without the whole plan falling apart.
Usually it is enough to start earlier and schedule the heaviest furniture for the first few hours. Sometimes it makes more sense to transport boxes the day before or to postpone the date – then the no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) and handover appointments also have to be adjusted. We quote the fixed price after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³). Call us as soon as a warning is on the horizon, and we will replan the process together.

Heat warning forecast? Call us early
Adjusting the process together
The earlier we know about an announced heatwave, the more options there are: an earlier start, boxes the day before, more breaks or a different date. Get in touch as soon as the forecast for your moving day looks hot – then we will discuss the options and adjust the no-parking zone and schedule. Call us on 01625978461.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we respond to heat
Earlier, shorter, with more breaks
A heat warning does not change the volume, but it does change the process. We move heavy carrying work to the early morning hours, plan more breaks in the shade and check whether part of the work can be moved to the day before. In the flat, closed shutters and a cool corner for breaks help. If postponing makes more sense, we agree it with you. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and work at a fixed price after a survey – more on the private move.

What to do in the event of a heat warning?
Heatwaves often show up in the weather forecast a few days in advance. These six steps help you react calmly – whether you move with us or with friends. The key is to clarify early whether you adjust the process or postpone the date.
Keep an eye on warnings
Start earlier
Split the work
Keep the flat cool
Consider postponing
Know the warning signs
Part load to lighten the load
With a part load, your belongings travel on a route together with other orders. This can ease the load when heat is forecast: individual pieces of furniture or boxes set off beforehand, and the actual moving day becomes shorter. We agree the delivery day in advance.

Reading
heat warnings correctly
The German Weather Service does not issue warnings based on air temperature but on the perceived temperature, which also takes sun, wind and humidity into account. There are two levels: strong heat stress from around 32 °C with little cooling at night, and extreme heat stress from above 38 °C. For a move this means: the higher the level, the more important an early start, short carrying distances and breaks become. How to protect helpers in the heat is covered in the article Staying healthy through a hot moving day.

Questions about heat warnings
What a DWD heat warning means
The German Weather Service issues heat warnings based on the perceived temperature, i.e. how warm it feels under the influence of sun, wind and humidity. There are two levels: a warning of strong heat stress when the perceived temperature is above roughly 32 °C and it cools down only a little at night, and a warning of extreme heat stress from above 38 °C.
You can find the warnings on the DWD website and in the WarnWetter app. For a move, even the first level means: heavy work belongs in the early morning hours, breaks become more frequent, and children, elderly relatives and pets should spend the day in a cool place. At the second level, it is worth seriously considering a plan B.
Plan B: start earlier, split or postpone
The simplest adjustment is an earlier start: the heaviest furniture is carried in the first few hours, followed by lighter work inside the flat at midday. If the work can be split, boxes, lamps and small furniture can go to the new flat the day or evening before.
If the warning is extreme, a different date may make sense. Then the moving company, landlord and handover appointments have to be re-coordinated. The no-parking zone is also only valid for the period applied for and may have to be applied for again – in Berlin at the road traffic authority of the district office (Bezirksamt). Talk to us early and we will clarify the options.

Moving prices: what counts
The size of the load, the distance to be driven from €3.85/km, and the floor and lift largely determine the price. A no-parking zone ensures a smooth process on moving day. For special requests we offer furniture assembly and a part load.
