New university city

One room, many kilometres, one date

Far, but plannable

Unsere Firma A long-distance move for your studies: type of transport by quantity and route, the new university's semester ticket, mail forwarding, registration and a no-parking zone at the destination.

If the offer for your bachelor's or master's comes from another city, there is often little time left before the semester starts. For a long-distance move for your studies, it is above all the quantity and the route that determine the type of transport: a full room travels in a vehicle of its own, a few pieces of furniture and boxes often more cheaply as a part load. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive to every university city and back; we quote the fixed price after the survey.

Alongside the transport, there are a few formalities: de-enrol at the old university, enrol at the new one, register at the new address within two weeks of moving in and set up mail forwarding – for private customers, Deutsche Post offers it with a term of six months. You will find all the information on long distances under Long-distance moves.

Planning a long-distance move for the start of semester

Route, quantity, fixed price

Tell us your start, destination and approximate quantity – we check whether a dedicated transport or a part load is cheaper. Call us on 01625978461: after the survey we quote a fixed price and set the date before your lectures begin.

LONG DISTANCE, CLEAR PLAN

How we plan a long-distance move for your studies

Collect, drive, assemble

With a long-distance move, a lot depends on the planning: when is the van loaded, when is the new room free, where can the vehicle stop at the destination? We clarify this during the survey, apply for the no-parking zone at both addresses on request and reassemble your furniture at the destination. We also handle the return journey – for example back to Berlin after your studies. For transport damage we are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³). On Google we are rated 5.0 from 119 reviews.

Long-distance move

A vehicle of your own from door to door when a whole room is coming along – details under Long-distance move; we charge for the route by the kilometre.

Part load

For a few pieces of furniture and boxes, your belongings travel with other jobs in the same direction – often cheaper over a long distance.

No-parking zone at both ends

On request we apply for the no-parking zone at the start and at the destination. Every city has its own deadlines – so enquire early.

Assembly service

Dismantling in the old city, assembly in the new one: on arrival day your bed and desk are in place before the first lecture begins.
CHANGING UNIVERSITY CITY

Six steps when changing university city

A long-distance move for your studies is more than a long drive. These six steps belong in your plan, so that nothing is missing at your new place of study.

01

Room first

Only give notice on your old room once the new tenancy agreement is signed – otherwise you are left with a full van and no address.
02

Choose the type of transport

Full room: a vehicle of your own. A few pieces of furniture: part load. Just suitcases and a few boxes: perhaps the train plus a parcel service is enough.
03

Change university

De-enrol at the old university, enrol at the new one. You usually get the new university's semester ticket with the semester fee.
04

Redirect your post

Book mail forwarding at least five working days in advance; for private customers it runs for six months. Since July 2024, DHL parcels are no longer forwarded.
05

Register

Within two weeks of moving in, at the registration authority of the new city, with your ID and landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
06

Pass on your address

BAföG office, health insurer, bank and the broadcasting licence service (Beitragsservice). If your BAföG office changes along with your university, report the change early so that payments continue.

Part load over a long distance

Share where it pays off most

The longer the route, the more a part load pays off: the travel costs are shared between several jobs, and you only pay for your space in the vehicle. For a shared-flat room with a few pieces of furniture going to another university city, it is often the cheapest solution. Expect a delivery window and schedule it before your lectures begin.

OVERVIEW

A
long-distance move into your new studies

Transport, university, post

This part is about moving to another university city: which type of transport suits the quantity and route, what happens with the semester ticket and enrolment, and how post and registration work at the new address. You will find a general schedule in the article Long-distance move: process, costs and checklist, and on post in the article Setting up mail forwarding.

Choosing transport

Your own vehicle, part load or parcel service – depending on quantity and route. That makes a student move, private move or small removal to the new city affordable.

Arriving

With furniture assembly, a packing service and safe furniture transport, the new room is habitable on arrival day.

There and back

After a bachelor's, master's or doctorate, people often move back – the same applies to a long-distance move, part load or furniture taxi in the opposite direction.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about a long-distance move to a new university city

Answers on registration, semester ticket, deposit, mail forwarding, costs, part load, tax and liability.
After your student move you must re-register with the new registration authority within two weeks. Bring your ID card and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) issued by your landlord. Many cities now offer online appointments, which is especially practical for students with a full timetable. Do not forget to inform your university of the new address too.

The ultimate packing plan for a student move

A good packing plan saves you a lot of stress on moving day. Start sorting your things early and part with anything you will no longer need in your new shared-flat room. Use sturdy moving boxes and label them by room, so that everything quickly finds its place when unpacking.

It is particularly important to pad fragile items such as crockery or electronics well. Also allow enough time for the final tasks such as end-of-tenancy cleaning and the handover report, so that your deposit is repaid without problems.

Moving to a new university city: long-distance moves made easy

If you move to another city to start your studies, you have to coordinate transport and dates: when does the old room end, when is the new one free, when do lectures begin? For a full room, a vehicle of your own is the easiest to plan; for a few pieces of furniture, a part load is often cheaper. You will find more on long distances under Long-distance moves.

In parallel you deal with the formalities: de-enrolment at the old university, enrolment at the new one, mail forwarding and – within two weeks of moving in – registration at your new address. We are based in Berlin and also travel in the opposite direction.

Starting prices and price per kilometre

Our rates are based on the size of your flat: 1 room from €369, 2 rooms from €609, 3 rooms from €879 and 4 rooms from €1,329. For a house or villa we prepare an individual quote, as many details have to be taken into account. For long-distance moves a price from €3.90/km applies. Get non-binding advice as part of a free survey.

What determines the price of a long-distance move

The key price factors include the volume of your belongings and the distance, which is charged from €3.90/km. The floor, lift and any parking restriction zone also have an effect. In addition, we offer furniture assembly and a part load.

How we support you when you change

Our aim: your move should go as smoothly as possible.
