Planning an IT Relocation: Step by Step

Backwards from moving day
Planning an IT move: the schedule in seven steps
Step by step
An IT move is best planned backwards: first the moving day is fixed, then you count back to work out what has to be done by when. Some deadlines cannot be shortened – the internet connection at the new site needs lead time with the provider, and the parking restriction zone in Berlin takes about four weeks to process. Other steps, such as labelling cables and devices, belong in the final week. If you know the order, you avoid a rush just before the date.
Our aim is that the transport does not extend the downtime of your systems. During the survey we record, together with you, the devices, furniture, routes and lift at both addresses and set the order. We then give you a fixed price with no hidden extra costs. Your IT team or IT service provider plans shutting down, removal and putting systems back into operation into the same schedule – so both parts mesh together.

Four deadlines that count
What cannot be shortened
In the schedule for an IT move, there are steps that can be sped up and steps with fixed lead times. The fixed ones include the internet connection, the parking restriction zone, the moving date itself and the notice period for the old premises. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21), apply for the parking restriction zone on request and agree the date with you and your IT team. A fixed contact person accompanies the move from the survey to the assembly of the furniture.

Seven steps to moving day
This is what the schedule for an IT move looks like when you count backwards from moving day. The first steps have fixed lead times, the last ones fit into the week before – the seventh is moving day itself.

Everything
for your move
Alongside the IT move, we support companies and private individuals with other types of move. We take the application for the parking space outside the door off your hands with our parking restriction zone service. Anyone relocating their household as well as the technology will find information on the private move; for longer distances it is worth looking at our long-distance moves. The locations overview shows places with their own pages.

Questions about planning
Moving day and the days after
It starts with a precise inventory: which servers, network components, workstation computers and peripherals are moving, and what will be disposed of? This produces the floor plan and the order, often with an evening or weekend date. Before transport, your IT team shuts down all devices, and cables and components are labelled with desk numbers.
On moving day we pad the devices, pack small parts into boxes, secure everything in the lorry against slipping and place it at the numbered spots at the destination. Your IT team then rebuilds the infrastructure according to its documentation and checks together with you whether servers, network and workstations are running. Allow enough time for this last step before the first working day.
Costs and timeframe in the plan
The costs of an IT move depend on the number of devices, the distance between the sites, the floor and lift, and the time window. With us you receive a fixed price after the survey; whether an evening or weekend date costs a surcharge is stated in it. Plan your IT team's working time for shutting down and getting systems running in addition.
In terms of time, the transport is rarely the bottleneck. The steps with fixed deadlines take longer: internet connection, parking restriction zone, date. The earlier you agree the moving day with us and your IT team, the better the downtime can be moved to a weekend.
