Arriving in Reims
Reims for newcomers: districts, everyday life, paperwork
Living in Champagne
A move to Reims takes you to the largest city in Champagne – around Notre-Dame Cathedral, where French kings were crowned. In the Centre-Ville the streets are narrow and partly pedestrianised; in districts such as Saint-Remi or Clairmarais it is worth checking the parking rules. Whether a parking space can be kept free on moving day is something you clarify via Reims-Contact. We quote the fixed price after the survey, so you know what to expect before moving day.
Whether a private move or a long-distance move from Germany – we handle packing, transport and furniture assembly in Reims. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21); because France is part of the EU, there is no customs duty. You can find more about our private move services and long-distance moves for the route from Berlin, Cologne or Frankfurt on the respective pages. Our locations overview gives an overview of further destinations. That way you can plan your move to Champagne in good time.

Request a fixed price for Reims
First the survey, then the binding price
If you plan early, you can coordinate the date of your move to Reims with the flat handover and the parking space. For long-distance moves from Germany, an early date also lets us check whether a part load is an option. Call us on 01625978461; after the survey we give you the fixed price for your moving date.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we clarify before your move to Reims
Parking space, floor and access
On a move to France no customs duty applies within the EU – what matters are the conditions at the address in Reims. In the city centre around the cathedral the streets are narrow; in the high-rise estates of Croix-Rouge it is the lifts and long walking routes. We ask in advance whether Reims-Contact can keep a parking space free and plan the vehicle size and walking routes accordingly. We quote the price after the survey as a fixed price; we are liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is possible. It is best to communicate with landlords in Reims in French.

First
steps in Reims
A move to Reims involves a few tasks, even though France has no general registration requirement as Germany does: the new address on the carte grise (vehicle registration certificate), entry on the electoral roll, health insurance and contracts for electricity and internet. At the flat handover in France an ‘état des lieux’ (inventory of condition) is drawn up, and service charges are regulated differently than in Germany. Our private move page gives an overview of our services. That way you keep track of the formalities in Champagne too.

Frequently asked questions about living in Reims
The districts of Reims at a glance
The Centre-Ville around Notre-Dame Cathedral is regarded as the lively heart of the city, with historic façades, boutiques and the highest rents in town. If you prefer somewhere quieter and cheaper, you will find spacious flats in high-rise estates at lower rents in Croix-Rouge, near the Croix-Rouge university campus. Saint-Remi, with its famous basilica, also offers a good mix of old-building charm and affordable rented flats.
For rail commuters, Clairmarais right by the station is a good choice; the large champagne houses such as Pommery, Taittinger and Veuve Clicquot, on the other hand, are in the south around Saint-Remi and Saint-Nicaise. Young families also appreciate Murigny and Croix du Sud for their green spaces, schools and quiet residential streets. The tram network with two lines reliably links almost all districts with the city centre.
Working, studying and living in Reims
Reims is known worldwide as the capital of Champagne, with renowned houses such as Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Taittinger and Mumm that provide numerous jobs in production, sales and tourism. For academics, the Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA), NEOMA Business School and the Reims campus of Sciences Po are attractive addresses that draw thousands of students every year. The city hospital, CHU de Reims, is also one of the largest employers in the region.
Quality of life in Reims benefits from the proximity to Paris, which can be reached by TGV in just 45 minutes, and from the picturesque wine landscape right on the city's doorstep. Numerous parks, cafés and an active cultural life make the city particularly popular with young professionals and families who want to combine urban flair with rural idyll.

How the price for Reims comes about
First, the volume of your belongings counts. Then comes the distance, which is charged from €3.90/km, plus tolls. Finally, the floor, lift and parking space play a role; in Reims you request the space from the city instead of a German parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone). For additional services we recommend furniture assembly and a part load.

Moving day in Reims: town hall, Reims-Contact and parking outside the building
For questions about moving day in Reims, the town hall is the first point of contact. According to lannuaire.service-public.gouv.fr, it is located at 9 place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, 51100 Reims and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 5 pm. The telephone number of Reims-Contact is 03 26 77 78 79 (Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 5:30 pm, Fridays until 5 pm); you can reach the service by email at [email protected].
The city website reims.fr lists the topics Stationnement (parking), Déménagement (moving), Quartiers (districts) as well as waste and bulky waste. We were unable to reliably check the details, such as requirements, deadlines and fees for a reserved parking space. Therefore:
- Ask Reims-Contact whether a reserved parking space is possible for your street on moving day and how much notice is required.
- Clarify access if you live in a building without a lift or on a narrow street.
- Give the office the date, house number and vehicle size; we tell you the size of the lorry with the quote.
We agree the journey from Berlin-Moabit with you. How moves to France work overall is explained in the guide to moving to Paris and under International move.
Changing your address after moving to Reims: online form, carte grise and electoral roll
After moving in, it is worth using the free online form ‘Déclaration de changement d’adresse’ on service-public.gouv.fr in France. It reports the new address to, among others, the health insurance fund (CPAM), the family allowance fund (Caf), the tax office, the energy supplier EDF, France Travail and the vehicle register (SIV) for the carte grise. Check in the form whether your provider is included.
On the carte grise, service-public.gouv.fr states that the new address must be entered; the page does not give a deadline. For a leased vehicle, the leasing company makes the change. You do not necessarily have to update your ID card and driving licence.
For the electoral roll, the page requires proof of residence less than three months old and proof of identity. Registration online is possible from the age of 18, and on paper with form cerfa 12669 at the town hall. Animals with a microchip or tattoo must be listed with the new address in the I-Cad database.
According to europa.eu, as an EU citizen you need no residence document in the first three months; after that, EU countries may require registration. France does not: according to service-public.gouv.fr, EU citizens do not need a carte de séjour but may apply for one voluntarily. According to the page, families with at least three children can apply to the Caf or MSA for a moving allowance within six months of the move. We offer help with packing and unpacking through our packing service.
