Moving to Hradec Králové: Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to Hradec Králové
Moving to Hradec Králové: Königgrätz on the Elbe and Orlice
Tips & costs
A move to Hradec Králové – Königgrätz in German – takes you to the administrative centre of the region of the same name in eastern Bohemia, at the confluence of the Elbe and the Orlice in the foothills of the Giant Mountains, around 112 km east of Prague. After the First World War, the university and episcopal city earned the nickname “Salon of the Republic”: architects such as Josef Gočár and Jan Kotěra shaped the modern townscape. The Renaissance White Tower stands in the historic centre. For your international move we clarify access and parking space in advance.
From our base in Berlin-Moabit it is around 450 km to Hradec Králové, driven via Dresden and Prague (A13, A4, A17, D8, D11). For the lorry we allow about 7 hours including a break and usually plan the move over two days. As Czechia is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods; on the way, the lorry pays the electronic lorry toll for vehicles over 3.5 t. We also handle the reverse route from Hradec Králové to Berlin. Further information: Long-distance move to Czechia.

Your move to Hradec Králové: what we do
From Moabit to Hradec Králové
We are a Berlin removal company from Moabit and carry out moves to Hradec Králové without having a branch there. That is why we clarify access, floor and carrying routes before moving day – for a flat in the old town just as for a house in Svinary. In Czechia, a reserved parking space in front of the building counts as special use of the road, which is applied for at the city – we clarify this before moving day. You receive a fixed price after a survey; liability is under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. More about the private move.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Hradec Králové
The districts of Hradec Králové
Hradec Králové consists of 21 districts. At its heart is the old town with the Great Square, the White Tower and the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, an urban heritage reserve since 1962. Adjoining it are the suburbs of Pražské Předměstí, Slezské Předměstí and Moravské Předměstí; further out lie, among others, Nový Hradec Králové, Kukleny, Malšovice, Plotiště nad Labem, Svinary and Třebeš.
In the old town the lanes are narrow and parking spaces scarce; the suburbs are characterised by blocks of flats and interwar buildings, and the outskirts by detached houses. For the move, the specific address therefore matters: we clarify access, floor and parking space during the survey. What you need to do after arrival is set out in our checklist for Czechia.
University, the “Salon of the Republic” and Königgrätz 1866
Hradec Králové is a university city: alongside the University of Hradec Králové, it is home to the Faculty of Pharmacy and a medical faculty of Charles University in Prague, as well as the Faculty of Military Health Sciences of the University of Defence. The city has been a bishop's see since 1664. We do not quote specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
The name is also known from the Battle of Königgrätz in 1866 between Prussia and Austria. For newcomers from Germany: within the EU there is no customs duty on household goods; anyone staying longer than 30 days reports their stay to the foreign police within 30 days. Long routes from Berlin can be found under Long-distance moves.
The prices you can expect from us
Moving costs vary depending on the scope. As a rule: 1-room flats from €369, 2-room flats from €579, 3-room flats from €909, 4-room flats from €1,309. For houses and villas we always prepare an individual quote, as the requirements can vary greatly. For long-distance moves we charge from €3.90/km. Book a free survey to get exact figures.
Calculating the moving price: the decisive factors
How much your move costs depends on the volume of your belongings, the distance (from €3.90/km) and the floor. An available lift saves time and money. A parking restriction zone may also be necessary. Further services such as furniture assembly or part loads round off the package.

From Berlin to Hradec Králové: border, tolls and traffic rules in Czechia
A move to Hradec Králové crosses the German-Czech border. The German Federal Foreign Office points out that border controls are currently being carried out at the German-Czech land border, flexible in place and time. Carry valid identity documents, therefore. EU rules apply to goods, and spot checks are possible.
Key points for the journey according to the Federal Foreign Office:
- Tolls: cars up to 3.5 tonnes need an electronic vignette for motorways and four-lane expressways, which you can buy online at edalnice.cz. Lorries over 3.5 tonnes pay a satellite-based toll; the vehicle must be registered in the Myto.cz system.
- Alcohol: Czechia has an absolute ban on alcohol at the wheel (0.0 per mille).
- Winter: winter tyres are compulsory from 1 November to 31 March, and snow and ice must be removed from the vehicle.
- Lights: dipped headlights or daytime running lights are compulsory at all times.
According to the Federal Foreign Office, trams in Czechia always have priority, including when turning. Fines are usually payable on the spot, and the police can demand a security deposit for offences. These rules mainly concern the drivers of the removal vehicle. Hradec Králové: reporting your stay to the foreign police
If you move to Hradec Králové as an EU citizen, you do not register at a residents' registration office as in Germany; instead, you report your stay to the foreign police. The Czech government portal gov.cz describes the obligation as follows: it applies if you expect to stay in the country for longer than 30 days, and the deadline is 30 days from entry. The foreign police office responsible for the address you give is in charge. You can submit the report in person or by post; electronically it is only possible with a data box or a qualified electronic signature. According to the portal there are no fees, and the police provide the form.
Exempt are persons under 15 and persons whose accommodation provider has already reported the stay, for example a hotel. Failing to report is an administrative offence; according to the portal, a fine of up to 3,000 koruna can be imposed.
In Hradec Králové, the foreign police's residence department is located at Ulrichovo náměstí 810. According to the police website, it is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 am to 5 pm. If you later move within Czechia and stay at the new address for more than 180 days, you report the change within 30 working days, according to the information portal ipc.gov.cz. How to deregister your German address properly is explained in the article Change of address: who to inform?.
