Pilsen: Lochotín Bolevec, Slovany – where to live

Living in Pilsen
Pilsen: everyday life in Czechia's fourth-largest city
Districts, work, studies
A move to Pilsen takes you to the fourth-largest city in Czechia: around 181,000 inhabitants, known for the Pilsner Urquell brewery, the Škoda tradition and the University of West Bohemia. The city is divided into ten city districts, from the Lochotín prefabricated housing estate in the north to the villages on the outskirts. Via the D5, Prague is around 90 km away, and the German border at Waidhaus around 70 km. This guide shows how the districts differ and what newcomers can expect in everyday life.
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take care of packing, transport and furniture assembly all the way into your new flat in Pilsen – whether in a period building in the centre or a block of flats in Lochotín. You can read about the route, schedule and paperwork in the article on the long-distance move to Pilsen. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and your belongings are covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB). Also find out about our private move services for individuals and families.

District, floor and parking zone in the quote
For your quote we need the new address in Pilsen including the district, the floor, information on the lift and the approximate volume of your belongings. During the survey in Berlin we record volume and special items; we check the parking zone at the destination in advance. You then receive a fixed price that no longer changes as long as the scope stays the same.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we get you into your flat in Pilsen
From Berlin into the block of flats
Whether a period building in the centre, a block of flats in Lochotín or a house on the outskirts: for moving into Pilsen, what counts is how close the van can get to the entrance and whether there is a lift. We clarify this during the survey and check the parking zone at the destination address. We are based in Berlin, drive with the same team all the way to the new flat and reassemble the furniture there. Our liability for your belongings is governed by the HGB; we quote the price as a fixed price after a survey. If the flat is not yet free, we store your belongings until you move in.

Preparing
for everyday life in Pilsen
If you are moving to Pilsen, you should take care of three things early on: a flat in the right district, the parking rules at the new address and registering with the Czech authorities. You will usually find flats via Czech property portals or estate agents. If you live in a paid parking zone, you can apply for a residents' card. And if you bring a car, clarify its registration in Czechia. We are happy to advise you on packing lists, interim storage and the right date.

Frequently asked questions about moving to Pilsen
Ten city districts: Pilsen from Lochotín to Doubravka
Pilsen is divided into ten city districts (Plzeň 1 to 10) with 31 neighbourhoods. Plzeň 1 in the north includes Bolevec and Severní Předměstí with the Lochotín prefabricated housing estate, which was completed in 1974 and is home to the university hospital. Around Bolevec lie the Bolevec ponds, a popular recreational area. The historic centre (Vnitřní Město) with Náměstí Republiky belongs to Plzeň 3, as do Jižní Předměstí and Skvrňany.
Plzeň 2-Slovany in the south-east includes Lobzy, Koterov and Božkov, among others, and Plzeň 4 in the east includes Doubravka and Bukovec. Districts 5 to 10 – such as Křimice, Litice or Lhota – are incorporated villages on the outskirts with a rural character. Which district suits you depends mainly on where you work and the tram connections.
Employers, universities and housing market in Pilsen
Well-known employers are the Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery (Pilsner Urquell), the Škoda companies with their rail vehicle technology and Panasonic in the Borská pole industrial area. The University of West Bohemia was founded in 1991 and is the city's largest university; there is also the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague, with around 2,000 students. Actual rents vary greatly by district and condition – compare current listings on Czech portals.
The D5 motorway connects Pilsen with Prague (around 90 km) and leads via Rozvadov/Waidhaus to the German A6. If you work in Prague but want to live somewhere quieter, check the commuting time before you start looking for a flat. For your start, we recommend our private move services, which we adapt to your address in Pilsen.
Guide prices for moving to Pilsen
We want you to know in advance what to expect: 1-room flat from €344, 2-room flat from €599, 3-room flat from €909, 4-room flat from €1,329. For a house or a villa we always prepare an individual quote, as size and effort vary greatly. If a long-distance move is due, we charge from €3.80/km. The most transparent option is a free survey at your home.
What determines the price of your move into Pilsen
Besides the pure volume, the distance travelled plays a major role – here we calculate from €3.80/km. The floor of the flat and a missing lift also increase the effort. If a parking restriction zone has to be set up, additional costs arise, as they do for booked furniture assembly or a part load.

From Berlin to Pilsen – and back
We are based in Berlin and carry out moves nationwide and abroad – to Pilsen as well as from Pilsen back to Berlin. You will find further destinations in the locations overview, and routes within Germany under long-distance moves.
Moving to Pilsen: border, vehicle and paperwork from Germany to Czechia
Germany and Czechia both belong to the EU. According to zoll.de, there is no customs clearance at the border when travelling within the EU, but random customs checks are possible. The removal van therefore travels without a customs declaration, but ID and an inventory list should still be to hand. The zoll.de page on removal goods describes moves from non-EU countries; for questions about moves within the EU, it refers you to customs information.
What you should clarify before the move:
- Vignette: edalnice.gov.cz states that all four-wheeled vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes need an electronic vignette. For the electronic toll, the site links to myto.gov.cz. We check the requirement for the vehicle used.
- Registration: according to Your Europe, EU citizens staying longer than three months must register with the competent authority. The requirements differ from country to country.
- Car: for a permanent move, the car should be registered and taxed in the new country. You must ask the Czech authorities about deadlines.
- Pets: dogs, cats and ferrets need a microchip, rabies vaccination and an EU pet passport.
The route and the process from Berlin-Moabit are described in our long-distance move guide for Pilsen; you will find general information in the guide to customs and formalities when moving to Czechia.
Pilsen: parking zones, multi-storey car parks and residents' card when moving in
For unloading in Pilsen, it is worth taking a look at the parking system. According to the city's official website, there are the paid parking zones A, B, C, D, F, Petrohrad and Roudná. Parking tickets are available at machines and via the ParkSimply Plzeň and DoKapsy apps, which work with the number plate.
The city offers two types of card for residents:
- "R" card (residents' card): for residents of the neighbourhoods located in the respective zone. A resident is anyone who owns a house or flat there or has their permanent residence there.
- "P" card (prepayment card): for entrepreneurs and organisations with their registered office or business premises in the zone.
There are two parking facilities in the centre: the Rychtářka multi-storey car park with 447 spaces on Tyršova and Truhlářská streets and by the Rooseveltova bridge, and the Nové divadlo car park with 166 spaces, which operates around the clock. From there, according to the city, the historic core can be reached in about five minutes on foot.
For the van outside your front door: we clarify access and stopping options in advance and plan in the unloading. Our long-distance move service shows what the process looks like from the survey to handover. We check access for each address during the survey, whether in the centre or in a residential area such as Lochotín.
