Moving to Neubrandenburg: Costs Process & Districts

From Berlin to Neubrandenburg
Moving to Neubrandenburg – the city of four gates on Lake Tollense
Guide
A move to Neubrandenburg takes you to the third-largest city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: around 60,000 people live in the district town of the Mecklenburg Lake District on the northern shore of Lake Tollense (Tollensesee). Because of its four medieval town gates, it has officially carried the epithet "Vier-Tore-Stadt" (city of four gates) since 2019. We plan your private move or business move to suit the parking restriction, access and staircase and give you the fixed price after the survey.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 186 km via the Berlin ring road, the A11 and the A20; by lorry that is about two and a half hours. Loading, the journey and unloading therefore often fit into one day. Whether it is a flat in the city centre, a prefabricated block in the Oststadt or a house on the Lindenberg: we clarify the floor and access in advance. The route is described under Move Berlin – Neubrandenburg.

Your quote for Neubrandenburg – after a survey
See first, then calculate
How much your move to Neubrandenburg costs depends on volume, floor, access and the route of around 186 km. We look at your household goods – at your home in Berlin or by video – and then give you a written fixed price, whether the destination is in the Oststadt or in the Lindenbergviertel.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

Our part in your move to Neubrandenburg
From Moabit to Neubrandenburg
We have no branch in Neubrandenburg; instead we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). That is why we ask about access, floor and staircase in advance – whether it is a flat in the Oststadt or a house in the Lindenbergviertel. In Neubrandenburg you apply for a parking restriction for a furniture move via the city's online service; the city does not state a fixed deadline, so we plan the application early with you. We give you the fixed price after the survey; we are liable for your household goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is available. Places with their own pages can be found under Locations.

Not much to move? Part load!

From
planning to assembly
A move to Neubrandenburg is a short one from Berlin, but it still needs planning: the parking restriction goes through the city's online service, the citizens' office (Bürgerbüro) works by appointment only, and parking areas are scarce in the city centre behind the town wall. This guide introduces the city areas – Innenstadt, Oststadt, Datzeviertel, Reitbahnviertel, Katharinenviertel and the Stadtgebiet West – and explains costs and process.

Common questions about moving to Neubrandenburg
Innenstadt, Oststadt and Datzeberg: the city areas
The Innenstadt (city centre) is the historic old town within the Brick Gothic town fortifications with their four gates. To the east lies the Katharinenviertel, with around 3,200 inhabitants (2018) the smallest quarter. The Oststadt, with around 15,300 inhabitants (2018), is the largest district; the Datzeviertel with the Datzeberg lies on a hill north of the city centre.
Around 8,700 people (2018) live in the Stadtgebiet West, partly in renovated prefabricated blocks and partly in detached houses and blocks of flats; then there are the Reitbahnviertel, Lindenbergviertel and other areas. For the move, the specific address counts – a prefabricated block without a lift needs more movers than a house on the edge of town. Our private move service adapts to this.
University, concert church and lake district: who moves to Neubrandenburg
Neubrandenburg is one of the four regional centres (Oberzentren) of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, with a catchment area of around 420,000 people. It has been a university town since 1988; the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences has its campus in the Stadtgebiet West. The city is also known for its concert church and philharmonic orchestra and for Lake Tollense close to the centre in the Mecklenburg lake district. We do not quote specific rents.
After moving in, you register within two weeks – online via the city's online service or with an appointment at the citizens' office on Friedrich-Engels-Ring. If you are arriving for the start of the semester, you should fix the moving day early. For routes from Berlin you will find everything under Long-distance moves.
Calculating moving costs – it's that easy
If you are planning to move, you naturally want to know what to expect. As a rule: the more rooms, the greater the effort. For a 1-room flat prices start from €375, for 2 rooms from €584. A 3-room flat comes to from €905, a 4-room flat from €1,309. For a house or villa there is no flat-rate price scheme – here we prepare an individual quote. For a long-distance move we charge from €3.95 per kilometre. Arrange a free survey now to receive a binding quote.
How your moving price is made up
Several factors determine the costs: the volume of your furniture, the distance covered (from €3.95/km) and the floor of your flat. If there is no lift, the effort increases. For a smooth process we also recommend a parking restriction zone, while furniture assembly and a part load can be booked as options.

Applying for a parking restriction for your move in Neubrandenburg
In its online service "Verkehr", the City of Neubrandenburg lists the approval of a parking restriction under § 45 (1) to (3) of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). It is explicitly intended for cases in which parking spaces have to be kept clear temporarily because of a furniture move or delivery traffic. You submit the application via an online form from the city. According to the city's website, the required documents must be attached to every application, and a fee is charged for processing. The page states neither the amount nor a fixed application deadline; so make enquiries early.
Legal background: under § 45 StVO, the road traffic authorities decide where traffic signs are to be put up. So the signs are ordered by the authority.
Questions are answered by the Public Order, Traffic and Trade department at Friedrich-Engels-Ring 53 ([email protected], secretariat 0395 555-2269). Office hours according to the city: Mondays 9 am to 12 noon, Tuesdays 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm, Thursdays 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm; closed on Wednesdays and Fridays.
According to the city, its P15 ticket allows a 15-minute stop in public parking areas in the city centre. Signposted no-parking areas are excluded. It therefore does not replace a parking restriction zone for a move. How we organise parking restrictions is explained on our page on the parking restriction zone.
Re-registering in Neubrandenburg: citizens' office, appointments and online registration
The city's citizens' office (Bürgerbüro) is at Friedrich-Engels-Ring 53, 17033 Neubrandenburg (telephone 0395 555-1111). According to the city, consultations are by appointment only. Appointments can be booked up to 30 days in advance or from 8 am on the day itself. It is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 am to 4 pm, on Tuesdays from 8 am to 6 pm and on Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon; the office is closed on Wednesdays.
- Registration for people moving in from elsewhere and change of address for a move within Neubrandenburg are listed by the city as separate services.
- Online: according to the city, registering your residence is possible via an online service, free of charge and without visiting an office.
- Deadline: under § 17 of the Federal Registration Act (BMG), you must register within two weeks of moving in. Under § 19, the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) must be issued within the same period.
Before moving day, it is worth looking at the city's "Aktuelle Baumaßnahmen" (current roadworks) page, where full closures and diversions are published. Check it shortly beforehand for the lorry's approach. More about registration deadlines can be found in the article Re-registering after a move: deadlines; what we offer for moves within the city is described under Moving company Neubrandenburg.
