From Berlin to Karlovy Vary
Moving to Karlovy Vary: spa town on the Teplá and Ohře
Planning from Berlin
A move to Karlovy Vary – Karlsbad in German – takes you to one of the most famous spa towns in the world, in the west of the Czech Republic where the Teplá flows into the Ohře. Around 49,000 people live here, about 140,000 in the wider urban area. Since 2021 Karlovy Vary has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Great Spa Towns of Europe, and its film festival has been held since 1946. Important for moves: in the spa zone in the narrow Teplá valley, vehicle access is restricted. For your international move we clarify this in advance.
The route is easy to plan: around 371 km via the A9, A14, A38 and A72 and through the Ore Mountains, about 5.5 hours by lorry including a break. We load in Berlin, drive to Karlovy Vary and reassemble everything there – usually over two days, depending on volume. As the Czech Republic is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for your household goods; on the way, the electronic lorry toll applies to vehicles over 3.5 t. You receive the fixed price after the survey; background on the route can be found under Long-distance move to the Czech Republic.

Moving to Karlovy Vary: arrange a survey
371 km, one contact person, one fixed price
For your move to Karlovy Vary, one call to 01625978461 is all it takes: we survey your flat by video or on site, ask about the floor and access at the destination and calculate the 371 km route. You then receive a written fixed price in which a parking restriction, assembly or storage are listed as separate items.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How your move to Karlovy Vary works with us
371 km, one team, one fixed price
Our team sets off from Stromstraße 21 in Berlin – we have no branch in Karlovy Vary itself. That is why we plan all the more carefully beforehand: floor, lift, walking distance and parking space, for example for a flat in the spa zone or a house in Stará Role. According to the City of Karlovy Vary, a vehicle restriction with its own access rule applies in the spa zone – we clarify how the lorry reaches your address before moving day. After the survey you receive a fixed price; liability for your belongings is governed by § 451e HGB (€620 per cubic metre). Details on our private move can be found here.

Moving
service without compromise
A move to Karlovy Vary raises many questions: which district suits you, may the removal van enter the spa zone, how do you register as an EU citizen and do you need customs papers? This guide presents the 15 cadastral districts from Karlovy Vary to Stará Role and summarises what the city and the Czech authorities say about access, the day ticket and residence registration. Frequently asked questions about moving to Karlovy Vary
Cadastral districts between the Ohře valley and the spa valley
The city is divided into 15 cadastral districts, including Karlovy Vary with the spa quarter, Rybáře (Fischern), Drahovice, Dvory, Doubí, Bohatice, Stará Role, Tašovice and Sedlec. Many of them were separate municipalities and were merged in 1949.
The administration, railway station and industry lie in the flat Ohře valley; the spa facilities stretch through the narrow Teplá valley, where access and parking spaces are limited. The outer districts have housing estates and houses. For the move, therefore, the specific address is what counts: we clarify access, floor and parking space during the survey. What you need to do after arrival is set out in our checklist for the Czech Republic.
Spa town, World Heritage and film festival
Karlovy Vary is one of the spa towns with the richest traditions in the world; since 24 July 2021 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Great Spa Towns of Europe”. The Carlsbad Conferences took place here in 1819, and since 1946 there has been the film festival, whose main venue has been the Hotel Thermal since 1976. West of the town lies the Sokolov Basin with open-cast lignite mining. We do not give specific rents – they depend heavily on location and condition.
For newcomers from Germany: within the EU there is no customs duty on household goods; anyone staying longer than 30 days registers their residence with the foreigners' police within 30 days. Long distances from Berlin can be found under Long-distance moves.
Planning your move: these are the costs to expect
Plan your move with our guide prices: from €344 for a one-room flat, from €609 for a two-room flat, from €905 for a three-room flat and from €1,289 for a four-room flat. A house or villa is priced individually. For long-distance moves we start from €4.15/km. Feel free to use our free survey to discuss all the details.
Briefly explained: price factors for a move
Volume, distance (from €4.15/km), floor and lift largely determine the price. A parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) may also become necessary. Additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load round off the offer.

To Karlovy Vary and elsewhere
We plan moves from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) for private and business customers – including to other EU countries such as the Czech Republic. What matters for moves across the border is explained under International move; long distances can be found under Long-distance moves. We also plan the way back from Karlovy Vary to Berlin with you.
Moving to Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad): access to the spa zone and parking
Anyone moving to Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) should know the access rules in the spa zone. According to the city, the spa zone is subject to a vehicle restriction that serves the town's atmosphere and the purity of the springs. The city distinguishes three zones: a traffic restriction zone, a pedestrian zone and a paid parking zone.
According to the city, spa guests with accommodation may enter once free of charge to load and unload their luggage on the day of arrival and departure. Everyone else needs a day ticket for entry and parking in the centre. It is valid until midnight on the day of purchase and is bought online via the “Vary Virtual” app or on site at machines by the municipal police (Městská policie) or at the Imperial Baths (Císařské lázně).
The city's page gives no information on moves and does not state any prices. So clarify with the city in advance whether an entry permit is needed for your address and the removal van. You can reach the Infocentrum Karlovy Vary on +420 355 321 171. We clarify this together with you during planning so that no time is lost on moving day.
A first overview of the process and costs of the route can be found in our long-distance moving guide for Karlovy Vary. General information on moving to the Czech Republic is provided in the article on customs and formalities.
Registering in Karlovy Vary: reporting your place of residence as an EU citizen
As an EU citizen you must report your place of residence in the Czech Republic. According to the Czech government portal (portal.gov.cz), this applies if the stay is expected to last longer than 30 days; people under 15 are exempt. Registration is made within 30 days of entry with the foreigners' police (cizinecká policie) at the place of residence. The obligation does not apply if the accommodation provider, for example a hotel, has taken care of the registration.
You need the official registration form, which is available on the foreigners' police website. You can submit it in person, by post, via a data box (datová schránka) or by e-mail with a qualified electronic signature. According to the portal, no fees are charged. Failing to register is an administrative offence; according to the portal, a fine of up to CZK 3,000 can be imposed on the spot.
Ideally, plan the appointment with the authorities for the first few days after arrival, when you move into the flat. Carry your tenancy agreement and travel document with you. We coordinate the move itself, from packing in Berlin to the handover in Karlovy Vary, as an international move with a survey and quote. Please check with the foreigners' police which forms currently apply.
