Documents and Valuables on a Family Move: The Family Folder

Family folder
What is irreplaceable travels with you
Kept safe
On a family move, dozens of boxes travel through the stairwell and lorry. That is exactly where identity cards, birth certificates, vaccination records or the children's yellow health check booklet have no business being. So set up a family folder a few weeks before the move that stays with you until you move in. It should also include the documents you need straight after the move: tenancy agreement, landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) and papers for school or nursery.
You also transport jewellery, cash and irreplaceable keepsakes yourself – for such valuables, the furniture remover's liability is restricted under § 451d HGB. We take care of everything else with a private move: dismantling and reassembling children's beds and wardrobes, transport and, on request, packing. We quote the fixed price after the survey.

Sort the papers, let us plan the move
Survey, fixed price, fixed date
While you put the family folder together, we plan the transport. Call us on 01625978461 and arrange a survey for your family move. After that we quote you a fixed price for the agreed services, and you can plan your budget reliably.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we carry – and what you carry
Furniture with us, papers with you
On a move with children, a simple rule applies: the moving team takes care of furniture, boxes and household appliances, while documents, jewellery, money and medicines stay with you. That way everyone knows where everything is. Beste Umzug Unternehmen is liable for transport damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB) at €620 per cubic metre of loading space (§ 451e HGB); additional insurance for valuable furniture is available on request. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and travel nationwide.

What belongs in the family folder
Important papers and valuables are often irreplaceable on a family move, or can only be obtained again with effort. These six groups belong in a folder that stays with you until you move in.
IDs and passports
Certificates
Health
School and nursery
Flat and move
Money and contracts
Part load for furniture and boxes
For single pieces of furniture or a few boxes, a part load is often worthwhile, with your goods travelling on an existing trip and sharing the loading space. However, valuables and documents do not belong in the loading space here either – they stay with you.

before the first box
This part of the series is about everything that must not get lost on a family move: IDs, certificates, the children's health records, school papers and valuables. You will find out what belongs in the family folder, why jewellery and money should not go in the lorry and how digital copies help if something does go missing. You can read more about protecting valuables in the article Protecting valuables and documents.

Questions about documents and valuables
The family folder: these papers belong in it
A few weeks before the family move, set up a folder with dividers. It should contain the identity cards and passports of all family members, birth certificates, vaccination records and the children's yellow health check booklets, school reports and nursery and school documents. Then there are the papers for the flat: old and new tenancy agreement, handover report and the landlord confirmation, which you need for registration within two weeks.
The folder does not travel in the lorry but with you in the car or in your handbag. Scan the most important pages beforehand and store the copies separately from the originals – if something does get lost, this speeds up replacing it.
Transport jewellery, money and keepsakes yourself
For precious metals, jewels, money, securities and certificates, the German Commercial Code provides a special exclusion of liability for furniture removers (§ 451d HGB). So transport such valuables yourself. This also applies to hard drives with family photos, collector's coins or the children's piggy bank.
Keepsakes such as a baby album, first shoes or home-made drawings are not expensive, but they are irreplaceable. Pack them well padded in a box of their own that travels with you. Also check whether your home contents insurance applies during the move.
What does the move cost? Prices at a glance
So that you are not left in the dark, here is our price structure: for a 1-room flat you pay from €359, for a 2-room flat from €599. A 3-room flat costs from €899, while a 4-room flat from €1,289 is estimated. For houses and villas we always prepare an individual quote. If you are moving over longer distances, you pay from €4.10 per kilometre for a long-distance move. The surest way to the right price is a free survey.
How the price is made up
In addition to the pure volume of your household goods, the distance between the old and new place of residence plays a major role – we calculate from €4.10/km. A floor without a lift also increases the effort. For a smooth process we also recommend a parking restriction zone – in Berlin with signs in place at least 72 hours beforehand. Services such as furniture assembly or a part load round off the offer.
