PLANNING THE BUDGET

Moving costs

Calculating your moving budget: every item plus a buffer

Item by item

Unsere Firma A moving budget is not just transport: materials, the parking restriction, double rent, renovation and a buffer are all part of it.

A realistic moving cost calculation begins with a precise inventory: the size of the flat, distance, floor and any additional services required determine the total price. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen you receive a binding fixed price after a free survey, covering all services from packing to transport. This way you avoid unpleasant surprises and can plan your budget precisely from the start. Our calculation also takes seasonal fluctuations into account so that you can choose the best moving date.

The quote you receive after the survey states what the fixed price covers: staff, vehicle, route and the agreed additional services. For long distances the price per kilometre is included – you see this in advance too. This transparency is particularly important for a private move, as the budget is often tight. Your belongings are covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (up to €620 per m³); additional insurance for valuable items is a separate budget item.

TRANSPARENT CALCULATION

How our quote becomes part of your budget

One figure instead of an estimate

For a realistic moving budget, you first need the largest item as a fixed figure: transport. That is why, after a survey, we calculate a fixed price that already includes volume, floor, route and the services you want. Our invoice shows labour and travel costs separately – important if you want to claim the move as a household-related service (§ 35a EStG) or as work-related expenses (Werbungskosten). We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate within the city, nationwide and abroad.

Site survey

Only once you know the volume can you calculate seriously. The free survey is therefore the first step towards a reliable moving budget.

Fixed price

After the survey you receive a fixed price for the agreed services. It stays the same even if moving day takes longer than expected – one less worry in your budget.

Itemised invoice

Labour, travel and material costs are listed individually on the invoice. You need this if you want to deduct 20% of the labour costs from your tax under § 35a EStG.

Modules of your choice

You only book packing, assembly or house clearance if they are worth the time to you. That way you decide for yourself how much of your own work goes into the moving budget.
BUDGET ITEMS

What belongs in a moving budget

The following items will help you draw up your moving budget in full and compare quotes more easily. Not every item applies to every move – but none should be forgotten. Enter an amount next to each item.

01

Transport and staff

The largest item: lorry, helpers, route, floors. Get a fixed-price quote after a survey for this, and the most important figure in your budget is settled.
02

Boxes and materials

Boxes, tape, bubble wrap and mattress covers add up. Check whether materials are included in the quote or need to go on the list separately.
03

Parking zone

The parking restriction zone involves fees charged by the authority and, where applicable, costs for the signage – each listed separately in the budget for the old and the new address.
04

Double rent

If your old and new tenancy agreements overlap, you pay twice for weeks or months. With a three-month notice period, this is often the most expensive forgotten item.
05

Renovation and deposit

Cosmetic repairs in the old flat and the new deposit (up to three months' net rent excluding utilities) often weigh on the budget before the actual moving day.
06

Buffer

A cushion for the unexpected – new curtains, missing lamps, a spare part – belongs in every budget, so that your fresh start does not begin with an empty account.
SAVING OPTION

Part load: the smallest item for small households

Pay only for the cargo space you use

If you want to save money, consider a part load (Beiladung): you share the cargo space with other moves heading in the same direction and pay only for the space your belongings need. This noticeably eases the budget – in return, you plan with a time window instead of a fixed day.

SAVING WITH A PLAN

Volume, date, your own work

Whether it is a private move within the city or a demanding long-distance move across Germany – every moving scenario requires its own budget planning. Factors such as furniture volume, the number of floors without a lift or special items such as pianos have a considerable influence on moving costs. We advise you individually on all relevant moving topics and show you where potential savings are hidden. The result is a budget that fits your actual situation.

Reduce the volume

Every cubic metre that does not travel saves lorry space and working time. If you consistently sort out, sell or donate before a private move, senior move or student move, you lower the budget before the first quote arrives.

Targeted DIY

Packing boxes yourself saves money; carrying heavy furniture yourself rarely saves enough. Combine your own work with a packing service for kitchen and glassware, furniture transport for heavy items and a small transport for individual pieces.

Tax and timing

For private moves, 20% of the labour costs reduces your tax (§ 35a EStG); for work-related moves, the costs count as work-related expenses. A weekday date is often cheaper – including for an office move, company move, part load or furniture taxi.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the moving budget

Answers on cost items, hidden costs, doing it yourself, timing and tax.
For a realistic moving cost calculation, you should include the size of the flat, distance, floor and any additional services required, such as packing or assembly. Seasonal price differences also play a role, as weekends are usually more expensive. The most accurate is an individual fixed-price quote after a free survey, which takes all cost factors into account so that no hidden extra costs arise.

The most important cost factors at a glance

When calculating your moving budget, several factors play a central role: distance, size of the flat, floor, a parking restriction zone and additional services such as packing or assembly. The timing of the move also has a considerable influence on the price, as weekends and the end of the month are usually more expensive than midweek working days.

If you know these variables early on, you can make targeted savings, for example through a flexible choice of date or by doing some of the packing yourself. A detailed estimate from Beste Umzug Unternehmen takes all these aspects into account transparently and clearly, so that no cost trap is overlooked.

How to cut your moving costs in a targeted way

A smart moving budget comes from clever planning: declutter thoroughly before the move to reduce volume and therefore costs. Also reuse moving boxes or borrow them instead of buying new ones. Booking early often secures you better terms than spontaneous enquiries shortly before your preferred date.

Combining different services can also pay off: if you book transport and final cleaning together, you often save compared with booking them separately. Also ask specifically about a part load if your moving volume is small – this can lower the total costs considerably.

How the transport item is made up

First comes the volume of your belongings. Then the distance, which is calculated from €4.15/km. Finally, the floor, lift and any parking restriction zone play an important role. For additional services we recommend furniture assembly and a part load.

Modules you can include in your budget

You can plan these services individually – depending on how much you take on yourself.

  1. Move with assembly: dismantling and assembly instead of giving up your own weekend. Move with assembly
  2. Furniture transport: just individual pieces, handled professionally. Furniture transport
  3. Private move: the basic item in your budget. Private move
  4. Part load: affordable for small households. Part load
  5. House clearance: less volume, smaller lorry. House clearance
  6. Company move: with its own budget for IT and downtime. Company move

Long-distance moves in the budget: plan the kilometres early

Over long distances, the price per kilometre becomes the second-largest item. We come from Berlin and travel nationwide; we quote the price for your route after the survey. More under Long-distance moves and in the locations overview.
