Guide to the authorities

Bürgeramt appointment after moving: book, prepare, complete

Two-week deadline

Unsere Firma is based in Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21) and moves many customers within Berlin – here is how registration works afterwards.

After moving in, you must register with the registration authority within two weeks – even if you are only moving within the same city. In Berlin you book your appointment at the Bürgeramt via the service portal service.berlin.de; according to the State of Berlin, registration is free of charge. You must bring your ID and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord; the tenancy agreement does not replace it. If you have an ID card with the online function, you can now also register online in Berlin.

In big cities, Bürgeramt appointments are often scarce. So book before the move and check regularly, because cancelled appointments become free again. Your landlord must issue the landlord confirmation within the two-week deadline; it is best to ask for it at the key handover. We take care of the move itself as part of a private move at a fixed price – set the moving date so that registration fits comfortably into the two weeks afterwards.

Coordinate the moving date and the appointment

Fixed-price move, registration in your hands

Once moving day is fixed, you can book the Bürgeramt appointment to match. We take care of packing, carrying and transport at a fixed price after an inventory check; you deal with registration in the two weeks afterwards. That way you avoid a fine for late registration.

Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we take on – and what stays with the authorities

Transport with us, registration with you

We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and, during the move, take care of packing, carrying, transport and, on request, assembly. We give you the price as a fixed price after the inventory check; for damage to your belongings we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre. Only you can complete the registration at the Bürgeramt – in person or online. Call us on 01625978461 and we will coordinate the moving date so that you have enough time left for the authorities.

Packing on request

With our packing service your head is free for the formalities. Your ID and landlord confirmation stay in your bag, not in a box.

Transport

With furniture transport within Berlin, the move is often done in one day – leaving plenty of time for the appointment.

Assembly

With a move with assembly, your bed and desk are set up by the evening; you will then find the documents for the authorities more quickly.

Parking restriction

In Berlin you apply for the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) at the road traffic authority – on request we take care of the application and signs.
STEP BY STEP

Six steps to your Bürgeramt appointment

This is how to get to your registration without stress after the move. The steps apply in Berlin, but in principle everywhere – only the booking portal differs from city to city. Plan them together with the moving date.

01

Book early

As soon as moving day is fixed, book an appointment – in Berlin via service.berlin.de, at any Bürgeramt in the city.
02

Get the confirmation

The landlord confirmation is issued by the landlord, within two weeks of moving in. The tenancy agreement does not replace it.
03

Check your ID

Bring an ID card or passport for each person; the new address is added to your ID card by sticker. Renew expired IDs beforehand.
04

Online as an alternative

With the online ID function, PIN and BundID, registration in Berlin is also possible online – without any appointment. A card reader or smartphone is enough.
05

Meet the deadline

Two weeks after moving in; if you do not register in time, you risk a fine of up to €1,000 (§ 54 BMG).
06

Keep the certificate

You often need the registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung) for your bank, employer or university – keep it with your moving documents.
FOR SMALL LOADS

Shared load for small moves

When a few pieces of furniture go a long way

With a shared load you share the loading space with other consignments on the same route. That suits small loads and long-distance moves. Important: the registration deadline runs from the day you move in, not from the delivery of the furniture. Plan your appointment accordingly.

Flat, authorities, contracts

Around a move there are many appointments: the flat handover, cancellations, registration at the Bürgeramt. With a long-distance move, you book the appointment with the registration authority of the new city – its portal may look different from Berlin's. If you plan cleverly, you book the appointment at the same time as the moving date. What happens if the two weeks pass after all is explained in the article forgot to re-register: is there a fine?.

Before the move

Fix the moving day, book a Bürgeramt appointment, ask the landlord for the landlord confirmation. In Berlin you can choose any Bürgeramt; an appointment a little further away is often free sooner than the one round the corner.

On moving day

ID, confirmation and appointment details go in your bag, not in a box. While the furniture transport and small transport are under way, photograph the electricity and gas meter readings.

After the move

Register within two weeks, keep the registration certificate, change your address with your bank, employer and insurers. Re-register a car without delay at the vehicle registration office (Zulassungsstelle); the number plate can stay.

FAQ

Questions about the Bürgeramt appointment

Deadline, documents, online booking, no appointments, costs, family and long-distance moves – answered briefly.
Under the Federal Registration Act, you must register with the registration authority within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG). If you do not do so, or not in time, you risk a fine of up to €1,000 (§ 54 BMG). So book your Bürgeramt appointment before moving day.

Booking an appointment at the Bürgeramt: step by step

In Berlin you book the appointment via service.berlin.de: choose the service “Anmeldung einer Wohnung” (registering a residence), look for a free appointment at any Bürgeramt, enter your details and confirm. Other cities have their own portals with a similar process. Instead of an appointment, in Berlin you can also register online with the online ID function.

Have your ID card or passport and the landlord confirmation ready. The tenancy agreement alone is not enough. That way the appointment is done in a few minutes and you reliably meet the deadline.

What to do if no appointment is available?

In Berlin in particular, Bürgeramt appointments are often taken quickly. Check the booking portal regularly, because cancelled appointments are released again, and also take appointments in other districts. With the online ID function you avoid the search for an appointment altogether and register online.

If you still cannot find an appointment within the two weeks, document your booking attempts and contact the Bürgeramt. How the authority assesses a delay in such cases is decided case by case.

Price overview: moving made easy

Your move starts at €369 for a 1-room flat and rises depending on size: €589 for 2 rooms, €884 for 3 rooms, €1,329 for 4 rooms. For larger properties such as a house or villa we prepare an individual quote. We charge long distances at €3.90/km for long-distance moves. Book a free survey now.

Factors influencing the moving costs

The decisive factors include the volume, the distance (from €3.90 per kilometre), the floor and whether there is a lift. Organising a parking restriction zone also plays a role. For individual requirements, furniture assembly and a shared load are available.

Your move, our competence

We offer all the services necessary for a smooth move.

  1. Home move – tailored for you
  2. Furniture transport – reliable and fast
  3. Company move – without business interruption
  4. Clearance – thorough and fair
