Updating contracts and subscriptions

Contract check
Contracts & subscriptions when moving: take them with you, update or cancel
Step by step
A move means more than packing boxes – your contracts and subscriptions need the new address too. Anyone who acts too late pays twice or receives reminders at the old flat. Two types of contract have statutory rules for moving: household customers may terminate their electricity and gas contract because of the move with six weeks' notice, unless the supplier continues to supply the new address on the same terms (§ 41b EnWG). With our checklist you keep track of everything.
For internet and telephone contracts, the provider must continue the service at the new address without a new minimum term if it offers it there; if that is not possible, you can terminate with one month's notice (§ 60 TKG). Insurers, your bank, the gym and clubs usually just need the new address. Our team at Beste Umzug Unternehmen takes care of the transport and gives you tips so that nothing organisational is forgotten – more on the private move.

How we take the contract work off your hands
A checklist instead of a pile of notes
A move takes more organisation than carrying furniture. That is why we give you a checklist for updating contracts and subscriptions, sorted by deadline – from the electricity contract with six weeks' special termination to the mail forwarding order. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and we are liable for your belongings under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³). Whether a private move round the corner or a long-distance move to another city – we are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21).

What matters with your contracts
A successful move needs a plan for the formalities as well as the transport. We value transparency, punctuality and practical help with updating your contracts – with a list sorted by deadline.
Record meter readings
Sort out electricity in time
Take your internet with you
Planning backwards
Bundle subscriptions
Keep confirmations
Part load for small amounts
With a part load you share the transport space with other moves and save costs as a result – ideal for small households or long-distance moves. Because collection and delivery fall within a time window, contracts and address changes should be dealt with early.

From
electricity to the broadcasting fee
Besides electricity, gas and internet contracts, remember insurance policies, your bank and subscriptions such as magazines or streaming services. Often forgotten are the change of address at the vehicle registration office (Kfz-Zulassungsstelle), which is due without delay, and re-registering the broadcasting licence fee (Rundfunkbeitrag). You can read how this works in the article Re-registering the broadcasting fee; tips on electricity and internet can be found under Transferring electricity, gas and internet.

Frequently asked questions about contracts and subscriptions when moving
Which contracts need to be adjusted first when moving?
The most urgent contract changes include electricity and gas. If you move, as a household customer you may terminate with six weeks' notice; if the supplier offers within two weeks to keep supplying you at the new address on the same terms, this right no longer applies (§ 41b Abs. 5 EnWG). In rented flats, water is usually billed by the landlord. Insurance policies such as contents or personal liability insurance also need the new address early on.
For internet, § 60 TKG applies: the provider continues the contract at the new address with an unchanged term if it offers the service there; otherwise you can terminate with one month's notice. After that come your bank, credit card and employer. Clarifying these points early avoids stress in the first weeks after the move.
Don't forget subscriptions and memberships
Besides conventional contracts, subscriptions such as magazines, streaming services or gym memberships should also be adjusted in good time. Many providers require a written change of address or termination several weeks in advance.
It is practical to make a list of all current subscriptions and work through it step by step. This prevents bills from going to the old address or memberships continuing unused.
What the move itself costs
| Flat type | Price |
|---|---|
| 1 room | from €365 |
| 2 rooms | from €615 |
| 3 rooms | from €889 |
| 4 rooms | from €1,299 |
| House/villa | individual quote |
| Long-distance move | from €4.10/km |
We give you the fixed price after a free survey.
What goes into the moving price
The price depends on volume, distance (from €4.10/km) and floor. A missing lift and a required parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) add to the effort. You can also book furniture assembly or a part load.
