Broadcasting licence fee
Updating your broadcasting fee: address, household, exemption
after the move
If you move, you must report the change to the Beitragsservice of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio, which collects the broadcasting fee (Rundfunkbeitrag). The Interstate Broadcasting Fee Treaty requires you to report the start and end of occupying a flat and any change to your details without delay – there is no fixed two-week deadline here as there is with the registration office. This applies to a move within the same city just as it does to a long-distance move. The fee is paid per flat, not per person.
The easiest way is to report the move online to the Beitragsservice, with your contribution number, old and new address and the move-in date. If you move in with someone who already pays, close your own account quoting their contribution number – otherwise two people will be paying for one flat. Alongside the broadcasting fee, registration, electricity, internet and post are also due. We take care of the transport; more under Private move.

Fixed price after a survey, without time pressure
We take care of transport and furniture assembly, so that after the move there is time for registration, the broadcasting fee and contracts. After a survey we quote a fixed price in which packing, transport and assembly are listed. We are liable for your household goods under the statutory rules of the German Commercial Code (HGB), at €620 per cubic metre. Call us on 01625978461 and we will plan moving day with a buffer.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

Move and address updates: who does what
Transport with us, notifications with you
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take care of the move itself – carrying, transport, assembly, and for long distances also as a long-distance move. You handle the broadcasting fee update yourself with the Beitragsservice, because only you have the contribution number and access to the account. During the survey we tell you which notifications are due after moving in – Bürgeramt, Beitragsservice, mail forwarding, electricity and internet – so that nothing is left undone in your first days in the new flat.

Six broadcasting fee cases after a move
Whether you move alone, move in together or keep a flat: with the broadcasting fee, what matters is how many flats you have and who is already paying in them. These six cases are the most common after a move.

Few belongings? Consider a shared load
With a shared load, several customers share a transport on the same route; this saves money especially on long-distance moves with few household goods, with a time window instead of a fixed delivery day. You still update your broadcasting fee from the day you move into the new flat.

fee, registration, contracts
Besides updating your broadcasting fee, other notifications are due after the move: registration with the registration office within two weeks, mail forwarding, electricity, internet and insurance. Which statutory deadline applies there is explained in our article Re-registering after a move: deadlines. Collect all the points on a list and tick them off in the first week.

Questions about the broadcasting fee after a move
When you have to report the move
The Interstate Broadcasting Fee Treaty requires you to report occupying a flat and any change to your details to the Beitragsservice without delay. It does not set a fixed deadline in days – so report the move right after moving in, ideally together with registration at the Bürgeramt.
If you do not report it, you risk two accounts running for the old and the new flat, or claims arriving later. With your contribution number, old and new address and move-in date, the change is quickly done.
Moving in together, moving out, shared flat: one fee per flat
The broadcasting fee is paid per flat, not per person. If two fee payers move in together, one closes their account and quotes the contribution number of the person paying for the shared flat. In a shared flat, too, only one person pays.
If someone moves out, the new flat needs its own account; clarify beforehand who will continue paying in the old flat. A hall of residence room that opens onto a generally accessible corridor counts as a separate flat and costs a separate fee.

These factors determine the moving costs
Besides the volume of your furniture and boxes, the distance (from €3.90/km) plays a central role in pricing. Then there are the floor, the lift and the need for a parking restriction zone. If you also need furniture assembly or a shared load, you should factor this into the calculation.
