Saving on moving costs: why early planning pays off
Twelve levers
If you want to save on moving costs, you should start organising at least six to eight weeks before the date. Early planning lets you compare several moving quotes at your leisure and secure your preferred date. The moving date also affects the price, as weekdays and the middle of the month are often cheaper than weekends or the turn of the month. Thorough decluttering also pays off, because fewer belongings mean less volume and less working time.
Another building block is the decision between doing work yourself and professional support from a moving company. Packing yourself saves money; heavy furniture and long staircases are better left to professionals. A moving company is liable for damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB) (§ 451e: €620 per m³), and additional insurance is available on request. A fixed price after a survey provides planning certainty and protects you from surprises on the invoice.

Request a fixed-price quote to compare
No obligation, after a survey, without hidden items
Call us on 01625978461 and, after the survey, receive a fixed-price quote for your move – ideal for putting side by side with other quotes. Every service is listed individually in the quote so that you can see where doing work yourself lowers the price. Your belongings are covered under the HGB.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

Where we help you save
Only pay for what you really need

Packing, carrying, assembly and the parking restriction are listed individually in the quote – so you decide for yourself what you take on and what we do. Your belongings are covered under the HGB (§ 451e: €620 per m³), and additional insurance is available on request. Ride along instead of your own lorry
A part load (Beiladung) is one of the most effective ways to save money on a long-distance move. You share the cargo space with other customers and pay only for the space your belongings need. In return, the date depends on the tour.

Savings
potential by type of move
Moves differ greatly in scope and distance. With a private move within the same city, you save mainly through your own work and the date. With long-distance moves, on the other hand, every cubic metre counts, as volume and route determine the price – here decluttering and a part load are particularly worthwhile. That way you find the right lever for every type of move.

Frequently asked questions about saving when moving
Keep an eye on incidental costs early
Besides the pure transport costs, a move involves additional expenses that are easily overlooked. These include a parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone) (in Berlin to be applied for at the road traffic authority of the district office, ideally around four weeks in advance; the signs must be in place at least 72 hours beforehand), cleaning the old flat or double rent during the notice period. If you plan these items early, you avoid unexpected bills.
Small things such as packing material, tape or hire fees for sack trucks also add up. A cost plan helps you capture all expenses and save on moving costs in a targeted way. Do not forget: part of the costs comes back through tax – more on this in the article Claiming moving costs against tax.
Using your own work sensibly
Doing work yourself is one of the most effective levers for saving money on a move without compromising on quality. Many customers can easily take on packing boxes, dismantling simple furniture or the final cleaning themselves. This noticeably reduces the workload for the moving company and therefore the total price too.
For more complex tasks, such as transporting heavy pieces of furniture or delicate electrical appliances, professional support is nevertheless advisable. The right balance between your own work and professional expertise ensures the best value for money.
