Long-Distance Move Berlin – Amersfoort: Route Registration, Duration

Berlin – Amersfoort
Long-distance move to Amersfoort: 614 km, then the exemption
Route, access, registration
In terms of the route, a move abroad to Amersfoort is simple: from Berlin you take the A2, switch to the A30 at Bad Oeynhausen and cross the border at Bad Bentheim. After that the lorry stays on the Dutch A1, past Hengelo, Deventer and Apeldoorn, all the way to Amersfoort in the province of Utrecht. That is around 614 km, about 9 hours by lorry including a break. Things get harder at the destination: the city centre is low-traffic (autoluw), and hardly any vehicle may enter without an exemption (ontheffing).
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and take care of packing, dismantling furniture, transport and reassembly; what a home removal includes is set out on the service page, and all routes under Long-distance moves. If your new flat is in the old town, we clarify before the date which permit is needed. We give you the fixed price after a survey; we are liable under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is possible.

The Netherlands is part of the EU, so there are neither customs duties nor import charges on your household goods. EU social rules apply to the journey: a maximum of 9 hours' driving per day (up to 10 on two days a week), a break of at least 45 minutes after 4.5 hours, and at least 11 hours of daily rest.
Anyone moving to Amersfoort from abroad and staying in the Netherlands for longer than four months within a six-month period must, according to the Gemeente Amersfoort, register in the BRP no later than 5 days after the move. You make the appointment by phone on 14 033 (from abroad +31 33 469 5111). You attend in person at the Stadhuis, Stadhuisplein 1; underage children must come too. If documents are missing, the registration cannot be processed. The BSN follows after registration. More on the steps in the guide Moving to the Netherlands.
Access in Amersfoort: low-traffic city centre, delivery times and zero-emission zone
According to the municipality, Amersfoort's city centre is low-traffic (autoluw): only vehicles with an exemption (ontheffing) may drive there. Residents and business owners have one; residents can register visitors who are loading or unloading via the ParkStart web application. If a visitor is not registered within 15 minutes, a fine (bekeuring) may follow. You apply for exemptions from ParkeerService, which according to the municipality also has special permits for moves.
In the Kernwinkelgebied, a pedestrian zone, there are delivery windows (venstertijden) during which vehicles may enter for deliveries even without an exemption: on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 17:30 to 19:30, and on Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:00 to 11:00.
In addition, the Kernwinkelgebied has been a zero-emission zone for commercial vehicles since 1 January 2025; from 1 January 2027 it also applies to the low-traffic city centre. A non-zero-emission vehicle first registered on or after 1 January 2025 may not enter. Exemptions are handled via the central RDW desk. The municipality has held information evenings on the extension, at which a move was discussed as one of the examples.
For parking, the municipality names zones 1 to 5; in zone 1, permit-only parking (vergunningparkeren) applies around the clock. Compare neighbourhoods in the guide to Amersfoort.
