Private move
Private move: how it works and what it costs
Process, costs & tips
A private move takes place in five steps: a survey or video call, a quote with a fixed price, packing, moving day and the formalities afterwards. During the survey, it is not the number of rooms that counts but the volume – wardrobes, beds, boxes – as well as the floor, lift and the route to the lorry. The quote is based on this. Sorting things out beforehand reduces the volume and therefore the price. A fixed price after a survey stays the same as long as the service does not change; that is why it is worth showing the cellar, loft and balcony during the survey too.
On moving day the movers dismantle furniture, carry, load and reassemble it at the new place; on request they also pack boxes. Then it is your turn: within two weeks of moving in, register with the registration office (Meldebehörde), with the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) from your landlord. If you plan early, you save above all on the items that drive the volume. What we take care of when you move home is described under private move.

Have your move surveyed
Fixed price after a survey or video call
Call us on 01625978461. We take a look at your flat – on site or by video call – and then give you a fixed price in which dismantling, transport, reassembly and any extras are listed separately. The survey is free and non-binding. Afterwards you can decide at your leisure whether and when we move you.
Quotes available individually based on workload, scheduling and the desired scope of services.

What we take on for a private move
And what stays with you
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and, for a private move, take care of dismantling, transporting and reassembling the furniture, and on request also packing, the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone), storage and disposal. Giving notice on the old flat, re-registering, mail forwarding and sorting things out beforehand remain with you. We are liable for your goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre; for very valuable items, additional insurance is available.

This guide explains the process and costs of a private move and gives tips for each phase. Which deadlines you need to keep an eye on is shown in the overview Private move: checklist. If you are leaving the city, you will find tips under long-distance moves. If you want to know in advance which mistakes cost the most time, you will find them in the article on typical mistakes in a private move – from giving notice too late to missing the deadline for reporting damage.

Questions about process and costs
Process of a typical home move
The private move starts with a free survey or video call, in which we record the volume, floor, lift and access. You then receive a quote with a fixed price in which every item is listed separately. You set the date once the handover and moving-in are clear.
Before moving day, you – or we – pack the boxes and label them by destination room; the parking restriction zone is applied for and set up. On moving day we dismantle, load, drive and reassemble everything in the new flat. You then register within two weeks. More on the scope of services can be found under private move.
Costs and tips for your home move
The cost of a private move is determined mainly by volume, floor, lift, carrying distances, distance and extras such as a packing service or storage. Early enquiries make it easier to choose a date, especially at the end of the month.
Tip: sort things out before the survey, then what you have sorted out does not count. Part of the costs can be claimed against tax: 20% of the labour costs, up to a maximum of €4,000 a year, under § 35a EStG. For moves to another city, take a look at the long-distance moves page.
Moving service price overview
Our moving service offers clear prices: one-room flats from €344, two-room flats from €589, three-room flats from €909 and four-room flats from €1,279. Larger properties such as a house or villa always receive an individual quote. For long-distance moves we charge from €3.80/km. For a tailored quote we recommend a free survey.
Moving price: five decisive measures
The price of your move is made up of volume, distance (€3.80/km), floor, lift and, if needed, a parking restriction zone. We also offer furniture assembly and a shared load.
