Fixed Price or Hourly Rate?

Billing for a move
Fixed price or hourly rate: who bears the time risk?
Comparing models
When planning a move, one question comes up early: fixed price or hourly rate? The difference lies mainly in who bears the risk if it takes longer. With a fixed price, the amount for the agreed scope is set in advance – traffic jams, a narrow stairwell or a jammed wardrobe are at the removal company's expense. With an hourly rate, you pay for the time actually worked, which can be cheaper for small, easily manageable jobs.
For a complete home move, we recommend the fixed price in most cases, because it makes planning possible for both sides. The prerequisite is an honest inventory: what is not on the list is not in the price either. For a private move with a cellar, loft or bulky furniture, a survey is therefore worthwhile. For a few hours of carrying help, on the other hand, billing by time is often the better choice.

After a survey, for the agreed scope
We calculate your fixed price after a free survey for exactly the scope we record together. We take into account the volume, distance and special features such as a long-distance move. Call us on 01625978461 and arrange an appointment.

How we bill
Both models, clearly described
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and offer both models: the fixed price after a survey for complete moves, and billing by time for small jobs such as carrying help. The quote states in each case what is included and what costs extra. In both cases our liability for your belongings follows the rules of the HGB. What hourly moving help includes can be read on the service page; the Locations overview shows places with their own pages.

What counts for the fixed price
A fixed price is only as good as the information it is based on. These six points decide whether it holds on moving day without additional charges – and when billing by time is the better choice.
Reliable moving service
Safe handling

Small loads: a shared load instead of hours
For individual pieces of furniture over a long distance, neither a whole lorry at a fixed price nor billing by the hour is ideal. A shared load is often cheaper then: your belongings travel on a lorry heading in your direction anyway, within an agreed time window.

Moving
& transport from a single source
Which billing model suits depends on the type of move. For a private move of a complete flat, a fixed price gives planning certainty; for an office move, dates outside business hours come into play; and for a long-distance move, the route counts above all. How the price per kilometre affects the total price is explained in the guide Long-distance move at a fixed price. We are happy to advise you personally on costs and process.

Questions about fixed price and hourly rate
The advantages of the fixed-price model in detail
The biggest advantage of a fixed price is cost certainty: you know before moving day what sum will be due, even if the move takes a little longer than planned. This applies to the scope recorded during the survey. This predictability is worth a lot, especially for larger moves with lots of furniture or a long-distance move over long routes.
In addition, a fixed price removes the incentive to work more slowly in order to bill more hours. For the removal company, what counts is finishing the move quickly and carefully, because the price is already set. Conversely: if considerably more furniture is added on moving day than discussed, the price may be recalculated.
When is an hourly rate worth it?
An hourly rate can be worthwhile for small jobs, for example if only a few pieces of furniture need carrying or a kitchen needs clearing out. This model also offers flexibility when the scope is hard to estimate. Ask beforehand when the time starts counting, whether travel to and from the job is included and in what increments billing takes place. You then bear the risk of rising costs in the event of delays.
For most private moves, and especially for moves with a larger volume, we nevertheless recommend the fixed price. That way you keep control of costs and can plan your budget realistically. We are happy to discuss which model suits your move.

What does the price of your move consist of?
Pricing is based primarily on the volume and the distance (from €4.10/km). Other factors are the floor, whether there is a lift, and setting up a parking restriction zone. If needed, furniture assembly or a shared load round off the service.
