Packing list for frequent commuters: what belongs in your bag rather than in a box

Commuter guide, part 4
What does not belong in the lorry on moving day – the packing list for commuters
Bag, box, cartons
If you commute every day, on the morning after the move you need the same things as on any working day: laptop, charging cable, work ID, ticket, keys. These are exactly the things that often end up in some box or other while packing. So pack a commuter bag first, which you carry yourself on moving day – only then does the actual packing begin. That way your journey to work is sorted on the day after the move, even if the kitchen is still in boxes.
Alongside the bag comes a first-week box: work clothes for a few days, toiletries, medication, bed linen, a pot and coffee. This box travels with you in the car or goes into the removal van last, so that it comes out first. Documents such as the tenancy agreement and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) belong in a separate folder. At Beste Umzug Unternehmen we discuss the loading order during the survey and then give you a fixed price.

Let us pack – you pack the bag yourself
Packing service on request, fixed price after a survey
If your commute leaves hardly any time for packing, our packing service takes care of the boxes. You only pack the commuter bag and the first-week box and put both to one side. After the survey we give you a fixed price. Call us on 01625978461.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

How we work with you on the packing
Your bag stays with you
When commuters move, we separate two things: what you need on the next working day, and everything else. Put the commuter bag, the first-week box and the document folder in a room we do not clear – or stick a "Stays here" sign on them. We pack and load the rest, with a packing service and furniture assembly on request. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21, Moabit) and drive within the city and nationwide. After the survey we give you a fixed price; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB).

The packing list in six groups
A good packing list for frequent commuters is sorted by what you need and when. Pack these six groups separately – carry the first three yourself on moving day or put them in your own car, and we take care of the rest.

Part load for a move with little luggage
With a part load, your belongings travel together with other jobs, which lowers the cost when you have little furniture. Because the route has several stops, there is a time window. So take everything you need for work with you yourself.

Packing
in three stages
Commuters do best packing in three stages. First the commuter bag with everything you need for your journey to work – it stays with you on moving day. Then the first-week box with clothes, toiletries and bed linen. Finally the rest of the household, room by room and labelled. If you are moving to another city for a new job, pack the bag for two or three days in case the furniture arrives later – more on this under Long-distance moves.

Frequently asked questions about the packing list and moving for commuters
The commuter bag: what you carry yourself on moving day
First pack everything you need for work on the day after the move: laptop and charging cable, work ID, job ticket or car keys, keys for both flats, phone charger and headphones. Add a folder with the tenancy agreements, handover report and the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) – you need it to register at the registration office (Bürgeramt).
Put the bag in a room that will not be cleared, or in your own car. That way nothing gets lost, even when many hands are carrying at the same time.
The first-week box for frequent commuters
The second stage is a box for the first few days: work clothes, toiletries, medication, bed linen, towels, a pot, crockery for two, coffee. Label it clearly and have it loaded last.
If you work from home, pack the router and cables in a separate, labelled box. More ideas in the article Packing a first-night box.
Moving costs explained clearly
For an initial idea: a move from a 1-room flat costs from €359, from a 2-room flat from €599. For a 3-room flat prices start at €899, for a 4-room flat at €1,299. For houses and villas there is no flat rate, but an individual quote. For long-distance moves we charge €4.15 per kilometre. You can plan most accurately with a free survey.
What determines the cost – including the packing effort
How much your move costs depends above all on the volume of household goods and the distance to be covered, which is charged at €4.15/km. Then there is the floor your flat is on and whether there is a lift. Setting up a no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone) also plays a role, as do additional services such as furniture assembly or a part load.
