Business Relocation: What You Should Look Out For

Moving company Berlin
Business relocation: check the new premises before you sign
What to look out for
In a business relocation, a lot is already decided when you view the new premises. Does the approved use suit your business? If a shop becomes a practice or a café, approval from the building control authority may be needed – clarify this with the landlord and the district office before signing. A restaurant licence (Gaststättenerlaubnis) applies to specific premises (§ 3 GastG) and does not move with you automatically. Also check whether electricity, water, extraction and internet are sufficient for refrigerated counters, treatment chairs or machines.
For the move itself, access and approach count: can lorries stop in front of the door, is there a delivery zone, or is a parking restriction zone needed? How wide are doors and stairs, can a lift carry heavy equipment, will the floor bear a safe or a machine? The old lease states what you have to remove when you move out – counters, partition walls, signs. A fixed price after a survey of both addresses shows early on what the move will cost. How we work is explained under Office relocation; we plan long distances as a long-distance move.

What we look out for during the survey
Access, approach and heavy items
We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and, before the business relocation, look at both addresses: where does the lorry stop, how long is the carrying route, will counters, display cases and equipment fit through doors and the stairwell, can the lift take the weight? From this we work out the number of movers, the schedule and the fixed price. Anything we cannot assess – approved use, connection ratings, structural load – we name as an open question for the landlord, building control or a specialist contractor. If employees are moving too, there is the Private move.

Few belongings? Consider a shared load
For a small shop, an external storeroom or individual pieces of furniture, a shared load can be cheaper. Bear in mind that a time window rather than a fixed date applies – so it is rarely the right choice for the opening day.

From
planning to assembly
What you look out for depends on the business: in a shop, the shop window, delivery zone and refrigerated units matter; in a practice, permits, accessibility and patient records; in a workshop, floor load, high-voltage power and extraction. We take care of dismantling, packing, transport and set-up. If you are relocating a pure office, you will find tips in the article Office move: what to look out for; for long distances there is the long-distance move.

Questions: what to look out for in a business relocation?
Process of a professional commercial move
A successful business relocation begins with a detailed on-site inventory. We record furniture, technical equipment, server structures and special requirements such as air-conditioning units or heavy machinery. We then draw up an individual schedule that disrupts business operations as little as possible – which is why we often carry out moves at the weekend or in the evening.
On moving day itself, our skilled staff handle professional dismantling, safe packing and transport of all items. At the new location everything is set up again, including furniture assembly; your IT service provider connects the IT. On request, we also dispose of old furniture from the old premises.
Typical situations in a business relocation
Many companies face a business relocation because they are expanding, merging locations or moving into more modern office space. Practice moves, law firm moves and relocations of production sites are also part of our everyday work. Each of these situations requires specific know-how, for example in handling sensitive patient records or delicate machinery.
Moves during ongoing operations are particularly demanding, when sections have to move step by step. Precise planning is crucial here, so that customers and staff always know where they can get in touch. Make sure the moving plan shows these stages – for office relocations as well as for shops.
