IT Move: Frequently Asked Questions

Questions and answers
IT move: what companies ask most often
Answered in brief
Before an IT move, companies almost always ask the same questions: who is liable if a server breaks? Who takes care of the data? Does everything have to be switched off, and can it be done at the weekend? The short answer: the moving company is liable for your belongings under the German Commercial Code (HGB), while your IT team remains responsible for data and systems. The answers on this page explain what that means in detail.
On moving day we take on the physical part: computers, monitors and printers are padded, small parts are packed into labelled boxes, furniture is dismantled and reassembled, and everything is transported according to the moving plan. We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21). Shutting down, removing equipment from the rack and getting systems running are done by your IT team or IT service provider. You know the fixed price after the survey, and additional insurance for expensive equipment is available on request.

The answers in brief
Four questions, four sentences
The four most important answers first: we are liable for your belongings under the HGB, by law up to €620 per cubic metre; for business customers the amount may be regulated differently in the terms and conditions. Your IT team backs up your data – no liability replaces lost data. Your IT team shuts down the systems and puts them back into operation at the destination. We give you the fixed price after the survey; evening and weekend dates are possible if they are available.

IT move: 12 questions and answers
How an IT move works
An IT move begins with a survey: we record workstations, servers, printers and peripherals, look at the routes and lift, and decide with you which areas move first. At the same time, your IT team draws up an inventory list, backs up the data and labels cables and devices.
On moving day your IT team shuts down the systems, and we pad, pack and transport everything according to plan and place it at the marked spots at the destination. Cabling and initial function tests are again handled by your IT team or IT service provider. Only then does normal operation begin.
What the costs depend on
The costs of an IT move depend on the number of devices, heavy single items, the floor and lift, the distance and the time window. After a free survey we give you a fixed price listing all items. Not included is your IT team's working time for shutting down and getting systems running – budget for this separately.
The best way to save is good preparation: dispose of old devices beforehand, keep the original boxes, reserve the lift. If only a few devices are moving to another city, a shared load can be cheaper. Whether evening or weekend dates cost a surcharge is stated in the quote.

How the price of your move is made up
The volume of your furniture and boxes is the basis of every calculation, supplemented by the distance, which is charged at €3.85/km. Whether there is a lift or several floors have to be climbed also affects the price. If furniture assembly or a shared load matters to you, simply book these extras as well.
