The Last Week Before a Family Move: A Day-by-Day Checklist

Final stretch before the move
Seven days, one list, no chaos
Well prepared
In the last week before a family move, lots of small tasks pile up, and everyday life with children carries on regardless. A list organised by day helps: at the start of the week you confirm the date and the no-parking zone, in the middle you pack the last boxes, and at the end it is the turn of the kitchen, the appliances and the children's rooms. What we take on for a private move is agreed during the survey – so you know what stays on your list this week.
Plan the week so that the children keep their familiar room for as long as possible: pack the children's rooms last, and favourite toys and bedding only on the evening before. Sort out early who will look after the children on moving day, and have the family folder with ID documents and tenancy papers ready. We give you the fixed price after the survey; your belongings are covered by liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB), and additional insurance is available on request.

Date confirmed? Then the final stretch can begin
Survey, fixed price, fixed date
To keep the last week manageable, the moving date should be fixed early on. After the survey we give you a fixed price and confirm the time and services in writing. For a long-distance move, too, we agree the loading and delivery dates with you. Call us on 01625978461.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

What we take off your hands
Less on your list
The last week shows how well a move has been planned. The more tasks are shared out beforehand, the calmer things stay for the children. On request we take care of packing the kitchen and fragile items, dismantling the furniture and the no-parking zone (Halteverbotszone); you keep the family folder, valuables and the children's bags with you. We give you the fixed price after the survey, and we are liable for transport damage under the German Commercial Code (HGB). We are based in Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and operate nationwide – destinations with their own page are listed under Locations.

The week before the move in six steps
Spread the final tasks over the whole week instead of leaving everything until the evening before – otherwise there is hardly any time left for the children. These six steps have proven themselves for a family move, from the date to the packed bag.
7 days: confirm the date
6 days: redirect the post
5 days: boxes finished
3 days: check the signs
1 day: kitchen and appliances
Evening: pack the bags
Part load for late arrivals
If you notice in the last week that the cellar or garage is still full, not everything has to go on moving day. Individual pieces of furniture or boxes can follow as a part load on an existing route and share the cargo space there – which takes pressure off the schedule for the final days.

From
Monday to moving day
This part of the series takes you through the last seven days before the family move: confirming the date and the no-parking zone, redirecting the post, finishing the boxes, preparing the kitchen and appliances and getting the children ready for the big day. You will find the long-term planning from three months ahead in Part 1 of the series, and a general list in the article Moving checklist. For a long-distance move, also plan the family's journey and overnight stay so that nobody is exhausted on arrival day.

Questions about the last week before the move
Checklist for the last seven days
Seven days before the family move, confirm the date, time and addresses with the moving team and make firm arrangements for childcare on moving day. Check that the mail forwarding is running and that the nursery, school and doctors know the new address. In the middle of the week, pack all the boxes you will no longer need before the move.
Three days before, check the no-parking signs – in Berlin they must be up at least 72 hours beforehand – and photograph them with the date. Put the family folder, keys and valuables in a fixed place where they cannot be mixed up with the boxes.
The last 24 hours: kitchen, appliances, children's rooms
The day before, switch off the fridge and freezer so they can defrost, empty the washing machine and fit the transport lock. Take down lamps, put screws in labelled bags, and set aside cleaning things for the old flat.
Pack the children's room last, and the cuddly toy and bedding only in the morning. On moving day, note the electricity, gas and water meter readings at the handover and record the condition of the flat in the handover report.
How much does the move cost? The price scale
- Small flat (1 room): from €375
- Medium-sized flat (2 rooms): from €609
- Family flat (3 rooms): from €899
- Large flat (4 rooms): from €1,329

- Long-distance move: from €4.20/km
We give you the exact price after a free survey – by the last week it should have been settled long ago.
