Moving to Nantes: a city at the mouth of the Loire
Guide
A move to Nantes takes you to a city of around 320,000 inhabitants in western France, seat of the prefecture of the Pays de la Loire region and the core city of Nantes Métropole. The city lies in the estuary of the Loire, near where the Erdre and Sèvre flow into it; most of it lies north of the river. Because France is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for household goods. For long routes from Berlin you will find everything under Long-distance moves.
We come from Berlin (Stromstraße 21) and drive around 1,434 km via Belgium into France and past Paris on the A11. By lorry that is about 22 hours including breaks – several days' driving time, so we plan two to three days with an overnight stop or two drivers. We give you the fixed price after the survey; tolls and driver times are included. Enquiries on 01625978461.

Your quote for Nantes – after a survey
See first, then calculate
How much your move to Nantes costs depends on volume, floor, access and the route of around 1,434 km. We look at your household goods – at your home in Berlin or by video – and then give you a written fixed price, whether the destination is in the city centre or on the Île de Nantes.
Offers available individually, depending on effort, scheduling and the scope of services required.

Our part in your move to Nantes
From Moabit to Nantes
We have no branch in Nantes; instead we come by lorry from Berlin-Moabit (Stromstraße 21). That is why we ask about access, floor and staircase in advance – whether it is a flat in the city centre or a house on the Île de Nantes. In Nantes you reserve the parking space for the move online with the Métropole at least 14 days in advance; the signs must be up no later than 48 hours beforehand – we plan both with you. We are liable for your household goods under § 451e HGB at €620 per cubic metre, and additional insurance is available. Places with their own pages can be found under Locations.

Part load for small amounts
A part load (Beiladung) is worthwhile if only a little needs to go to Nantes: your items use free load space on a tour heading that way. You pay less than for a lorry of your own but need to be flexible about the delivery day. Well packed, even single items travel safely.

Your
move – fully organised
A move to Nantes raises its own questions: when is the parking space reserved with the Métropole, who puts up the signs and when does the Police municipale check them? What applies in pedestrian zones and in the limited traffic zone (Zone à trafic limité) around the Cours des 50 Otages? This guide explains the steps, introduces the city on the Loire and Erdre and shows how we plan the roughly 1,434 km from Berlin. Further destinations can be found under Locations.

Common questions about moving to Nantes
City centre, Île de Nantes and the Loire: Nantes at a glance
Nantes lies in the formerly navigable estuary of the Loire; the Erdre and Sèvre flow into it nearby. Most of the city lies north of the Loire. On the Île de Nantes, the old port and shipyard site has been transformed – with renovated shipyard cranes and an exhibition space in the former banana warehouse.
In the centre there are pedestrian zones and the limited traffic zone (Zone à trafic limité) around the Cours des 50 Otages. For the move this means: in the city centre, the permit, access and carrying routes count; on the Île de Nantes and in the outer neighbourhoods it is more about the parking space. Our private move service adapts to this.
University, Airbus and trams: who moves to Nantes
The University of Nantes dates back to 1460. On the southern edge of the city there is an Airbus plant. Public transport is operated by Semitan, with three tram lines – the first opened in 1985 – and around 70 bus lines. In 2013 Nantes was European Green Capital. We do not quote specific rents; they depend heavily on the neighbourhood.
As an EU citizen you do not need a residence document in France for the first three months; according to service-public, an EU residence card is not compulsory. In Berlin you deregister within two weeks of moving out if you are not moving into a new home in Germany. Plan the journey with a buffer.
Moving prices: clear and fair
Our prices are clearly calculated: 4-room flats from €1,269, 3-room flats from €915, 2-room flats from €609 and 1-room flats from just €359. For houses and villas there is an individual quote. We charge long-distance moves from €3.80/km. Take the opportunity of a free survey.
How is the moving price calculated?
The basis is always the volume of your household goods. Added to this are the distance (from €3.80/km), the floor and whether a lift is available. For a smooth process in narrow streets we recommend a parking restriction zone. We are happy to combine this with furniture assembly or a part load.

More destinations, one start: Berlin

Nantes: reserving a parking space for the move with the Métropole
In Nantes, according to Nantes Métropole, private individuals and companies can reserve a parking space for a move or building work; for moves, the request is made via an online procedure. The request must be submitted at least 14 days in advance so that it can be checked and the neighbours affected can be involved. The permit is subject to a charge, on all days of the week from Monday to Sunday. According to the Métropole, the price depends on the rules for the street, the number of days and the area in square metres; the amounts are set out in the 2026 tariff.
Once the permit has been granted, the following steps apply:
- put up no-parking signs no later than 48 hours in advance (Sundays and public holidays do not count)
- report that the signs are up with an attestation to the Police municipale, who check on site
- on moving day, register the removal van's number plate, at the parking meter with an "autorisations spéciales" ticket or via PayByPhone (code 44035)
- for moves lasting several days, repeat the registration daily and display the permit behind the windscreen
According to the Métropole, the police check is a prerequisite for having obstructing vehicles towed away if necessary. So plan putting up the signs and having them checked so that both are completed before moving day. How to prepare this for a move is described in our guide to the parking restriction zone; for our service see Parking restriction zone.
Nantes: pedestrian zones and the limited traffic zone in the centre
If your new address is in a pedestrian zone in Nantes, according to Nantes Métropole you do not need no-parking signs. Instead, you press the "appel agent" button at the entrance terminal and give the number of your permit. Keep the permit number to hand on moving day so that the driver can give it at the terminal straight away. You must not obstruct pedestrians, other vehicles, garage and shop entrances or café terraces while doing so.
In the centre there is also the limited traffic zone (Zone à trafic limité) around the Cours des 50 Otages and adjacent streets. Driving through without a permit or sticker is prohibited there; according to the Métropole, a violation can be punished with a 35-euro fine. The Métropole's page on delivery traffic in the centre gives time windows and delivery durations for suppliers; it does not mention moves. So we clarify in advance which proof applies to your move at the zone.
Whether your address is in the city centre, on the Île de Nantes or outside, we check during the survey together with access, vehicle length, floor and carrying routes. Tips on formalities after arriving in France can be found in our checklist for moving to France, and on the route and duration in the article Long-distance move to France.
