Checklist for little lead time
An express move rarely fails because of the carrying, but because of things that get lost in the rush: the key appointment with the landlord, the meter reading, the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) for the registration office (Bürgeramt). At Beste Umzug Unternehmen we therefore start with what has to be settled first – date, volume and fixed price – and then go through with you what else needs doing. This checklist sorts everything into four stages so that you forget nothing, even with only a few days' notice.
A fixed order helps especially with job-related moves, spontaneous changes of flat or tight deadlines. First come the appointments that need lead time: the moving team, the handover of the old flat and – if still possible – the parking restriction zone. After that come boxes, contracts and post, and at the end the registration at your new home. You can hand over many items on an express move checklist: getting boxes, packing the kitchen and books, dismantling wardrobes, carrying furniture, transporting it and reassembling it. You receive the fixed price in writing before booking, with all the services you have chosen. We are liable for your belongings under the rules of the German Commercial Code (HGB). What stays with you: authorities, contracts, keys and everything you have to sign personally.

Small move, a little time?
With a shared load, your belongings travel on a tour that is already planned – cheaper, but with a time window instead of a fixed day. That rarely suits a genuine rush date. If you only have a little furniture and a few days of leeway, put the item “check shared load” on your list anyway.

Stages 1 and 2: right away and before moving day
Right away: fix the moving date and fixed price, arrange a handover appointment for the old flat, sort out leave or working from home for moving day. Check the parking restriction zone (Halteverbotszone): in Berlin the signs must be in place at least three full days (72 hours) beforehand, and the authority usually takes considerably longer to issue the order. With only a few days' notice, this is often no longer possible – in that case we plan with a longer carrying distance. Before moving day: declutter and arrange bulky waste collection, pack boxes and label them with the destination room, set up mail forwarding, transfer electricity, internet and insurance, defrost the fridge, and pack a bag with documents, charging cables and medication.
Stages 3 and 4: moving day and afterwards
On moving day: photograph the meter readings in both flats, transport the document bag and valuables yourself, check together after unloading that everything has arrived and record any visible damage in writing immediately. Hand over the old flat with a handover report and count all the keys.
Afterwards: register with the registration office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks of moving in (§ 17 BMG) – for this you need the landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). Damage to your belongings that is not externally visible must be reported within 14 days of delivery (§ 451f HGB). Then inform your bank, employer and health insurer of your new address.
Moving costs in detail – how the prices are composed
The exact costs of your move depend on several factors. The following prices serve as a rough guide: 1-room flat from €349, 2-room flat from €609, 3-room flat from €915, 4-room flat from €1,299. For larger properties such as a house or villa, we prepare an individual quote. If you are moving further away, the rate for a long-distance move is from €4.15/km. The main cost drivers include the volume of your belongings, the route (from €4.15/km), the number of floors and whether there is a lift. A parking restriction zone is also recommended for a smooth process. We additionally offer furniture assembly and a shared load.
