Special leave for a move: there is no general right. § 616 BGB can be excluded by contract; TVöD and TV-L grant one day only for a work-related move.

Example 3-room move: team from 7:30 am, loading until about 10 am, drive, assembly, handover around 3–4 pm. Plus parking restrictions and the 14-day deadline for damage.

Tasks when moving: the company carries and reassembles, you re-register and cancel contracts, the landlord confirms the move-in, the authority approves parking restrictions.

Moving within a week: on day 1 sort out the moving company and parking restriction, pack and switch contracts by day 5, then transport. Register within two weeks (§ 17 BMG).

Moving in the summer holidays: Berlin is off from 1 July to 14 August 2027; lorries over 7.5 t may not drive on many motorways on Saturdays in July and August.

First the end of tenancy: notice given by the 3rd working day takes effect at the end of the month after next. Then mid-week, not month-end – and no lorry move on Sundays.

Moving at the weekend: Saturday is a normal working day; on Sundays a ban on employment (§ 9 ArbZG) and a lorry ban over 7.5 t apply. Pros and cons at a glance.

Why moving dates at the end of the month are scarce: notice by the 3rd working day, align tenancy end and start, parking restriction 72 hours ahead and enquire early.

Applying for a parking restriction zone in Berlin: informal application to the district, from €21, around four weeks' processing, signs up at least three full days ahead.

Week 8: quotes and survey, week 5: parking restriction (Berlin approx. 4 weeks processing), then registration within 2 weeks of moving in – the plan in stages.
